A practical way to set, raise and track a step goal that suits your starting point rather than a one-size-fits-all number.
Many people copy a headline step target, miss it for a few days and give up. If you coach walking or run a step challenge, you need a way to start from where people actually are. This deck begins with a baseline and builds from there.

This is a ready-to-use, editable PowerPoint deck of about 45 slides on setting step goals. It covers finding your baseline, a 20% weekly progression, four walking plans from beginner to assisted walking, balance and flexibility, and trackers. It suits individuals, coaches and wellness teams who want realistic targets.
After a short chapter on why walking matters, the deck turns to Finding Your Starting Point. It explains how to find your baseline by wearing a pedometer for several days and averaging the totals, and shows where to wear it. Chapter 3 introduces the 20% progression: multiply your current daily average by 1.20 for next week's goal, hold steady if that feels hard, and jump ahead if it feels too easy. It also includes a slide on the common 10,000-step benchmark.
The routines chapter offers four plans. Plan A builds the habit, Plan B adds intensity with hills and speed intervals, Plan C builds endurance and Plan D supports walking with a cane or walker. A one-page at-a-glance slide compares them. A case vignette follows an office worker whose pedometer showed a low baseline.
Later chapters add flexibility stretches and balance exercises such as a single-leg stand, a section on apps and trackers, motivation multipliers and a community challenge vignette, and an overview of low-impact options including water aerobics, cycling, yoga and Pilates. The deck ends with a sample weekly plan, a daily wellness log and an obstacle-planning chapter.

Use the baseline and 20% slides so each participant sets their own starting goal rather than a single number for everyone.
Complete the baseline slide together, pick a plan from A to D and agree on a weekly review.
Present Plan D and the balance slides so that people with different mobility feel included.
Download the deck, open it in PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides, and start with slide 7 to find your baseline. Then pick one of the four plans.
