What is the Customer Service Excellence course?

Bodhih Customer Service Excellence is a self-paced online certificate for frontline service staff and team leads in any sector. In about 7 hours it teaches what customers expect in 2026, how to listen and solve problems on the first contact, calm angry customers, write clear replies, work well with chatbots and AI-drafted replies, and handle complaints. Learners practise in six branching Scenario Sims tailored to their sector, and a before-and-after check shows their progress.

Why customer service training so often changes nothing on the floor

“I understand your frustration.” On repeat.

New staff learn by shadowing and from scripts, and they sound like it. Customers hear the script, not the person, and the call gets harder. Empathy that works is specific, sounds like you and leads to a next step.

“Stay calm,” they said. Nobody showed us how, or where the line is.

Angry customers and abuse wear people down. Staff are told to keep smiling, but not given a sequence that calms a shouting caller, or a clear rule for when anger has become abuse and the contact should end.

“We closed it fast. They called back twice.”

Teams chase handle time, close contacts quickly and then take the same customer again. Meanwhile chatbots and AI-drafted replies have arrived in the workflow, and nobody trained the team to hand off from a bot or check a draft before it goes.

Who it is for

Who this customer service course is for

Frontline agents on phone, chat, email and social

You handle the contacts. Picture the contact you dread most: here you can practise it safely first. You will learn to find the real problem with fewer questions, calm an angry customer in four steps and write replies that answer first, in every channel.

New joiners, and experienced staff who want a 2026 refresh

New staff get a complete method as onboarding. Experienced staff get the new parts of the job: chatbot handoffs, checking AI drafts, vulnerable customers and fair complaint handling, and sims that test what they already do.

Team leads and supervisors

You coach service staff. Every module has a note for team leads, and you will leave with fairer ways to read the numbers, a plan for hard contacts and a way to run a complaint review.

Companies with service teams in several sectors or sites

One course serves a clinic front desk, a bank’s payments team and a hotel reception, because the sector lens switches the examples, sims and documents. Company seats come with before-and-after scores per learner.

This course is not for CX strategy roles that need journey analytics or programme design in depth, or for anyone who wants a technical help-desk certificate; it is a self-paced skills course with no live trainer.

Why now: the evidence

Why customer service skills matter more, not less, as AI arrives

Four dated figures, each linked to its source.

Desire

What you can do at the end: calmer contacts, fewer callbacks, fairer complaints

Imagine your next angry caller ending the conversation calm, with a clear next step, because you have already handled that call six times in practice. The course measures you at the start and the end on parallel forms, and every module ends with a plan for your own job, saved to your workplace action log.

Know what customers expect now

Explain what customers want in 2026, find the effort in your own process, and treat a simple, quick solution as the goal rather than a surprise gift.

Read the numbers without being misled

Read CSAT, Net Promoter Score, Customer Effort Score, first-contact resolution and average handle time, and know when a single number is pushing the team the wrong way.

Find the real problem fast

Use open, probing and confirming questions, listen for facts, feelings and needs, and spot the cues that a customer needs extra care.

Show empathy that sounds like you

Replace scripted lines with specific empathy and positive language, in voice, chat and email.

Own it, resolve it, keep the promise

Own issues to the end, resolve more on the first contact, set promises you can keep, say no with options and escalate with a warm handoff.

Calm angry customers and hold the line on abuse

Use the CALM steps to de-escalate, separate anger from abuse, apply your employer’s boundary policy and recover after a hard contact.

Use chatbots and AI drafts well

Know when a bot must hand off to a person, check an AI-drafted reply before it goes, and remember that the company owns what its chatbot says.

Turn complaints into fixes

Recognise and log complaints, recover with a proportionate remedy, follow a fair process from acknowledgement to final response, and feed themes back into fixes.

Customer service course curriculum: 8 stages from baseline to credential

The pathway runs in order: a baseline check, six modules (service mindset and the numbers; listening and empathy; ownership and first-contact resolution; difficult and angry customers; every channel and AI; service recovery and complaints), each with a Scenario Sim and boosters two and seven days later, and a final check on a parallel form.

Customer Service Excellence: questions, answered

Straight answers on time, price, tools and the credential. If yours is not here, ask us and you will have a reply the same working day.

Ask a question

Is this customer service course for beginners or experienced staff?

Both. New staff get the full method, from listening to complaint handling, and can use it as onboarding. Experienced staff get the newer parts of the job (chatbot handoffs, checking AI drafts, vulnerable customers and fair complaints), and the sims test what they already do. Team leads get a coaching note in every module.

Which sectors does the customer service training cover?

Retail and e-commerce, banking and insurance, telecom and utilities, healthcare and clinics, hospitality and travel, and B2B, SaaS and tech support, plus a general option. You pick your sector at the start and can switch in any module; the examples, sims and practice documents change with it.

How long does the course take?

About 7 hours: six modules of about an hour each, plus a short check at the start and the end. Most people finish in about 4 weeks at two modules a week. Short booster questions arrive two and seven days after each module.

What are the Scenario Sims?

Branching conversations where you choose what to say and do. Meters such as Customer calm, Trust and Resolution move with each choice, a note explains why, and a debrief shows the stronger move at every step. They run inside the course with no extra software, and each one follows your chosen sector.

How do I handle angry customers, and does the course teach it?

Yes, in Module 4. It teaches the CALM steps, a Bodhih sequence to contain, acknowledge, lead and mark the next step, and you practise them in The Angry Customer sim, first in chat and then on the phone. It also covers how to recover after a hard contact.

Does it teach how to deal with abusive customers?

Yes. It separates anger from abuse, and shows how to give one clear warning, end a contact and report it under your employer’s policy, and how to look after yourself afterwards. It is not a substitute for your employer’s own safety policy.

Is this an AI course?

No. It is a customer service skills course. Module 5 covers chatbots and AI-drafted replies because they are now part of the job: when a bot should hand off to a person, how to check an AI draft before sending, and why a company is responsible for what its chatbot says. It works with any tool, and you do not need an AI subscription.

Will I get a customer service certificate?

Yes. Pass the final check (70%, with up to three attempts) to receive the Bodhih Customer Service Excellence credential with an Open Badge 2.0, a verify page and a PDF that shows your before-and-after result. It is a Bodhih credential, not a university qualification or an accreditation.

Does it follow ISO 10002 or prepare me for an outside certification?

Module 6 teaches the principles of ISO 10002:2018, the international guidance on complaints handling, at a practical level; it does not certify you or your company against the standard. The course does not prepare you for any outside exam, such as the HDI Customer Service Representative certification.

Can we buy it for a whole team?

Yes. Company seats are $99 each, with reporting on progress and before-and-after scores, and the sector lens lets one course serve several teams. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601 for seats or a rollout.

What do I get besides the modules?

Five complimentary Pro Kits (The Complaint Handling and Recovery System, The Support Desk Set-Up Kit, The Call Quality Monitoring Kit, Hard Talks, Good Outcomes and Reset, Not Resign), a printable job aid for every module, booster questions and a workplace action log.
