How do working parents organise family life?
Working parents organise family life best with one shared calendar, one capture list and a short weekly family meeting, then by sharing whole responsibilities (noticing, planning, doing and following up) rather than single tasks. The Working Parent Family Organiser from Bodhih Training gives you that system with a workbook, forms, scripts and a four-week set-up plan.

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.
Two calendars and a fridge list
Work lives in one app, school in an inbox, childcare in a text thread. The school trip is discovered at 7.42am, and the argument that follows is always about who said what.
The load nobody sees
One adult notices the shoe sizes, the forms, the renewals and the party replies. The other does plenty of tasks when asked. It looks shared, and it does not feel shared.
Every sick day is a negotiation
A temperature at 6.50am means fifteen minutes to decide who stays home, under pressure, with no rule. The more movable job, or the more guilty parent, usually loses.
School holidays arrive as a surprise
The dates were published a year ago, but the plan starts three weeks before. By then the clubs are full and the popular leave dates are gone.
Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.
Imagine next Sunday evening. The children are in bed, the timer is set for twenty minutes, and the shared calendar is open between you. As you walk through the next fourteen days, every drop-off and pick-up gets a name. The Thursday clash, the one that would have surfaced on Wednesday night, is spotted and given to the person who will sort it.
When you open the Family Command Centre for the first time, you fill in the Mental Load sheet alone, then read the Fairness view together. It is not a scorecard. It is a map that lets you move whole items, with all their noticing and remembering, to the person who can own them.
Picture a cold January morning when a child wakes up unwell. Instead of a negotiation, you check the rota, follow the rule you wrote on a calm day, and send the message from the script library before 8. Whether you start with the calendar tonight or the workbook tomorrow, the system grows a little each week until it runs on twenty minutes.
And by the end of the first month you sit down with the Family Agreement and write, on one page, how your household runs: who owns what, how sick days and travel work, and when each adult gets time that is truly theirs.

One calendar. Every time-bound thing in the family lives in one shared calendar that every responsible adult can see and edit. Work shifts, travel, school events, childcare drop-offs, appointments, birthdays and renewals all go in it. If it is not in the shared calendar, it is not happening. That rule sounds harsh. It is the kindest rule in the book, because it ends the argument about who said what. One capture list. Everything that is not yet a calendar event goes into one shared list: "buy a birthday present for Mia", "fix the bathroom tap", "school wants a costume by Friday", "ring the dentist". Any adult can add to it at any time.
The honest comparison
| Free templates and typical advice | This kit | |
|---|---|---|
| Method | A blank planner page | A tested method: one calendar, one list, one meeting, whole-item ownership |
| Mental load | A chore chart that shares tasks | An inventory of noticing, planning, doing and following up, with a fairness view against your own target |
| Childcare | Not covered | A matrix with Plan A, B and C for every slot, a holiday gap planner and a sick-day rota |
| Work | Generic advice to set boundaries | A request planner, 5 letters and exact words for managers and teams, with dated country notes |
| Family shapes | Assumes two parents and one way of living | Versions for single parents, shift workers, grandparents, helpers, adoptive and foster families |
| Countries | One country's assumptions | Any currency, with dated notes for 8 countries and official sources to check |

Working Parent Family Organiser: FAQs
Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my linkHow do working parents share the mental load fairly?
Write down every family responsibility and, for each one, who notices it, plans it, does it and follows up. Then move whole items, with all four parts, to the other adult or to your support network, and review after four weeks. The kit's Mental Load and Fairness sheets do the counting for you.
What should be on a weekly family meeting agenda?
Keep it to twenty minutes: a quick check-in, the next fourteen days in the shared calendar, emptying the capture list, food and money, gaps and risks such as sick-day cover, and one small thing for the adults. The cheat sheet and fillable form in the kit give you the timings.
Does the kit work for single parents and shift workers?
Yes. The method works with one adult, using a support network for back-ups and whole-item handovers, and Chapter 10 covers single parents, shift and rota workers, grandparents and helpers. For a complete single-parent system, Bodhih also offers The Single Parent Household Kit.
Do I need Excel?
No. The workbook opens in Excel and Google Sheets. Forms open in any PDF reader such as Acrobat Reader, and the Word files open in Word or Google Docs. The calendar file imports into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar.
Does it cover flexible working rules in my country?
The book teaches how to prepare and make a request anywhere. Appendix A has notes dated October 2026 for the UK, US, Canada, Australia, India, Singapore, the UAE and South Africa, each pointing to the official source. Always check your HR team, contract and the official site before acting.
Is this medical, legal or financial advice?
No. This is educational, practical material about organising family life. For your child's health, feeding, sleep and development, follow your doctor, nurse, health visitor or paediatrician. For employment, tax and childcare rules, check the official source in your country and a qualified professional where needed.
How long does it take to set up?
The first hour gets you a shared calendar, your settings and a booked family meeting. The full set-up is spread over four weeks of 15 to 45 minute sessions, and the calendar file puts each one in your diary.
How can I measure my starting point?
If you want to see where you are today on planning and asking clearly for what you need, try the AssessAll assessments Time, Priorities & Focus, Task Prioritisation & Planning, and the Assertive Communication Profile for Individual Contributors and Emerging Leaders. They pair well with Chapters 4 and 7.
How do I turn this into habits that stick?
Write each new habit as an if-then plan, such as "when the rota is published, I add it to the family calendar that evening". Jobulary's article on if-then plans that make habits stick explains the idea and helps you turn it into a development plan.
Can I share the files with my partner or helper?
Yes, within your household: share the workbook and forms with the other adults in your home, and send the info pack to your babysitters and back-ups. Please don't share or resell the kit beyond your household.
How much does Working Parent Family Organiser cost?
₹999 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $29 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.
How do I get the files after paying?
Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.
What software do I need?
Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.
Can I get a refund?
Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.
Can my company buy this for a team?
Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
