Quick answer

How do I make and use visual supports for my child at home?

Start with one hard moment, not the whole day. Match a support to what is hard (a now-next strip for transitions, a first-then board for starting tasks, a wait card for waiting), use pictures your child reads easily, say few words, and review every few weeks. The Visual Supports Kit by Bodhih Training gives you the method, printables and planner.

Sound familiar?

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.

Saying the same thing ten times

You repeat instructions all day and still the words seem to disappear. Everyone ends up tired, and nobody is being difficult.

Transitions that turn into battles

Ending screen time, leaving the park or getting out of the door can unravel a whole morning. Your child often seems to have no idea what is coming next, or when.

Downloaded cards that never get used

Free printables look lovely on the fridge but nobody explains which one to use, when, or what to say. A month later they are curling at the corners.

Home and school pulling different ways

School uses one set of pictures and words, home uses another, and new adults have no idea what your child's cards mean.

Now imagine this

Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.

Imagine next Monday at 7.40. A short strip of pictures on the back of the door: toilet, teeth, shoes, coat, car. You point and say one word. Your child looks, puts their shoes on and turns the card over. As you open the Planning Sheet tonight and choose just one hard moment, you will notice how much calmer it feels to work on one thing at a time.

Picture the end of tablet time with a countdown strip in your child's hands, removing one number each minute, and a first-then board showing what comes next, something they chose. When the strip runs out, the change happens, and it happens the same way every day.

Think ahead to the dentist, the haircut, the school trip. A social narrative written with your child, in their style, read on calm evenings before the day. A communication passport in the bag that tells new adults how your child says help, stop and finished.

Whether you start with the printable boards tonight or set up the Visual Supports Planner at the weekend, you will be using a method designed around understanding and choice, and you may find your child has more to say than the old routine left room for.

A taste of Chapter 2

It is bath time in Ohio. Jake has twins, Mia and Max, who are five. Max is autistic and was diagnosed last spring. Jake has bought a laminated visual schedule online, forty-two symbols on a neat strip, from wake-up to sleep. It hangs on the fridge. Nobody looks at it. Bath time is still a battle, because the problem with bath time was never the order of the day. It was that Max does not know when bath ends, and the water on his face feels terrible. The most common mistake with visual supports is to start with the product rather than the problem. A full-day schedule is a fine thing, but it is the answer to one specific difficulty (not knowing what is coming next across the day). It does nothing for a child who struggles with the end of screen time, the feeling of a hair wash or the noise of the school hall. So start with the hard moment. Then choose the support that matches it.

Questions buyers ask

The Visual Supports Kit: FAQs

Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my link

What are visual supports?

Visual supports are things a person can see that help them understand, remember, predict or communicate: schedules, first-then boards, choice boards, task strips, wait cards and social narratives. They keep information still, so a child can look again instead of relying on spoken words that disappear.

How do I make a visual schedule for my child?

Choose one routine, show three to six steps in one direction, use pictures your child recognises, and let your child move each card to a finished pocket. Use few words and the same words every time. The kit includes a daily schedule board, schedule strips and 96 symbols to start with.

Are the picture symbols from PECS, Boardmaker or Widgit?

No. Every symbol in this kit was drawn for it, and the kit is independent of PECS, Boardmaker and PCS, Widgit and other commercial sets. If your child's school uses one of those, keep using it for key words, and use the kit's Symbol Vocabulary sheet to record which picture you use for each word.

Will visual supports stop my child from learning to talk?

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association says available research does not support the idea that augmentative and alternative communication reduces motivation to speak, and that it can help natural speech. Keep talking as you point, and ask your speech and language therapist about your own child's communication.

Does my child need a diagnosis to use this kit?

No. Visual supports are low-cost and safe to try while you wait for an assessment, and they help many children with or without a diagnosis. The kit suits autistic children, children with ADHD, language delay, learning disabilities and anxiety, and any child who processes pictures more easily than words.

Is this kit therapy or medical advice?

No. It is educational content from a training company. It teaches practical, widely used ways to make and use visual supports, and it does not diagnose, treat or replace your child's speech and language therapist, occupational therapist, doctor or school. Rules on school support plans differ by country, so check your local authority, school and an independent advocate.

How can I measure my starting point as a parent or carer?

If you would like to reflect on your own caregiving decisions or how you read and respond to feelings, Bodhih's AssessAll platform offers the Family and Elder Caregiving Judgment, the Early Years and Childcare Practice Judgment and the Emotional Intelligence Profile. They are optional and separate from the kit.

How do I turn this into a plan that actually sticks?

Import the 4-week calendar and write one if-then plan for your hardest moment, such as 'If it is 7.30, then I show the morning strip.' Jobulary has a clear guide to if-then plans that make habits stick, and the kit's Use Log shows you whether the plan is working.

Can I share the printables with my child's school?

Yes, you can give copies of your child's cards, boards, guide and passport to the adults who support your child, including school staff. Please do not share or resell the files themselves. Schools and organisations can ask about a team licence at solutions@bodhih.com.

What is the refund policy?

Digital kits are non-refundable once downloaded. The exceptions are corrupted files that are not fixed within 3 working days, duplicate charges, or failed delivery.

How much does The Visual Supports Kit cost?

₹999 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $29 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.

How do I get the files after paying?

Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.

What software do I need?

Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.

Can I get a refund?

Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.

Can my company buy this for a team?

Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
