Quick answer

How do I plan a summer holiday that keeps my child learning without the stress?

Ask your children what they want, solve childcare first, then give each week one theme, one finished project, one outing and one rest day. Keep 15 to 20 minutes of reading or maths games most mornings. The Summer Holiday Learning Planner from Bodhih Training gives you the method, workbook, forms and printables to do it.

Sound familiar?

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.

The 'what shall we do today?' argument

Every morning starts with a negotiation and ends in pyjamas at lunchtime. Without a weekly spine, every day is a blank page and everyone has a different idea.

Worry about the summer slide

You have read that children lose learning over the break, but workbooks end up under the sofa. You want something that keeps minds working without turning home into school.

Thirty working days to cover

If you work, the holiday is a jigsaw of leave, camps, grandparents and favours. One missed day can unravel a week.

Screens fill every gap

Nobody decides it, but by 4 pm on a wet Wednesday everyone has been on a screen since lunch, and switching it off means a scene.

Now imagine this

Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.

Imagine the Sunday before the holiday. The wish lists are on the fridge, in your children's own words. The Childcare Cover sheet shows no red gaps. As you open the Week Themes sheet, the first week already has a theme, a big question, a project and a free outing.

Picture Monday morning. Breakfast, then twenty minutes of reading or a card game with numbers, then the big block: a minibeast hotel for the five-year-old, a bug survey for the nine-year-old. Lunch, a quiet hour, free play. Nobody asked what to do today, because the rhythm already answered.

Now think of a wet Wednesday in week three. Instead of the screen, you pull the decision card off the fridge, reach for a rainy-day box you packed last week, and the afternoon becomes a blanket fort with a sign and rules. When the screen timer rings at six, you point at the agreement everyone signed.

And imagine the last fortnight: a journal full of drawings and tickets, a handful of finished projects, reading minutes added up by child and week, a certificate on the wall, and bedtimes moved back in gentle steps. Whether you start with the wish lists tonight or the workbook tomorrow, the first hour is mapped out for you.

A taste of Chapter 1

That fits what cognitive scientists have learned about memory. Two ideas matter here. Retrieval practice: bringing something back to mind strengthens it. A well-known 2006 study by Henry Roediger and Jeffrey Karpicke in Psychological Science found that students who were tested on a passage remembered it better a week later than students who simply reread it. Spacing: a little practice spread over many days beats the same practice crammed into one sitting. Put those together and you have a holiday recipe. Little and often. Pull things back from memory rather than rereading them. Keep reading going every day in whatever form your child enjoys. Use maths for real things. And spend your energy on curiosity, planning and finishing projects, which children carry back to school as confidence.

Questions buyers ask

The Summer Holiday Learning Planner: FAQs

Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my link

What ages is the kit for?

Children aged 4 to 12. The theme packs give activities for three age bands (4 to 6, 7 to 9 and 10 to 12), the journal has weekly pages for younger and older children, and the e-book shows how to plan for siblings of different ages.

Does it work for a holiday that is not six weeks, or not in summer?

Yes. The workbook handles 1 to 10 weeks from a single start date, so it works for a long summer break in July, a summer vacation in May or a December and January holiday in the southern hemisphere. The calendar file is dated for a six-week holiday; you can drag events to your dates.

How do I stop the summer slide?

Research on summer learning loss shows wide variation between children, and maths practice tends to fade more than reading. A light daily rhythm helps: 15 to 20 minutes of reading or a maths game most mornings, daily reading in any format, and maths used for real things like cooking and shopping. The e-book explains the evidence carefully.

I work full time. Will this help?

Yes. Chapter 10 and the Childcare Cover sheet start with cover, before anything fun is planned. Every weekday appears automatically, gaps turn red, and the Messages document has words for camps, grandparents, other parents, sitters and your employer, plus a carer handover sheet and a swap note.

How much screen time should children have in the holidays?

That is a family decision. The World Health Organization recommends no more than one hour of sedentary screen time a day for children aged 2 to 4, with less being better. For older children, the kit helps you agree a plan in advance: an amount, a time window, exceptions and adult rules too.

Can children use AI tools with this kit?

The AI prompt pack is for adults. Children should use AI tools only with an adult and only where the tool's own age rules allow, since many require users to be 13 or over. Children should never share personal details with any app or AI tool.

Is this educational or professional advice?

It is educational and practical guidance, not medical, legal, psychological or childcare-regulation advice. Rules about home education, childcare, apps and children's data differ by country and change, so check your local education authority, provider terms and a qualified professional where it matters.

How can I measure my starting point as a planner and a parent?

If you want to check how strong your plans are before the holiday, AssessAll's Plan Strength Assessment with an Eight-Week Re-Measure gives you a baseline and a re-measure. For screens and online safety, try the Digital Parenting & Online Safety Judgment. Grandparents and carers who lead projects may like the Lesson Design and Questioning Technique Assessment for Teachers and Trainers.

Can I turn this into a development plan for myself?

Yes. Many of the skills here, planning, coaching and teaching by doing, grow through practice. Jobulary's guide to the 70-20-10 model explains learning by doing and can help you turn the holiday into a personal development plan.

Can I share the kit with my family or a holiday club?

The personal licence covers your own family, including grandparents and carers looking after your children. For schools, clubs or companies using it with other families, please ask about a team or company licence at solutions@bodhih.com.

How much does The Summer Holiday Learning Planner cost?

₹599 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $17 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.

How do I get the files after paying?

Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.

What software do I need?

Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.

Can I get a refund?

Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.

Can my company buy this for a team?

Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
