How do I help a child with sensory overload?
Lower the input first: less noise, light and talk, and a calm adult nearby. Learn the early signs, keep the day's load low with movement and quiet time, and agree a written calm plan for before, during and after. The Sensory and Regulation Kit from Bodhih Training gives you the method, templates and printable cards to do this.

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.
It seems to come out of nowhere
One minute your child is fine, the next the house is in uproar or they have disappeared under a table. Without a way to see the build-up, every hard moment feels like a surprise, and you spend the day on edge.
Everyone has an opinion
Relatives say spoiled, school says fine in class, the internet says try this diet. What you need is a clear, written picture of your own child that you, the school and the professionals can all use.
Ordinary things are battles
Socks, haircuts, the dinner hall, the supermarket, bedtime. When the senses are involved, ordinary routines need a plan, and generic parenting advice does not fit.
You are running on empty
Appointments, forms, school meetings and broken nights wear you down, and your child can feel it. You need tools that save time, not another blank template to fill.
Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.
Picture a Sunday afternoon a few weeks from now. You open the workbook and the Sense Summary has the answer you have been circling for months: it is the sudden noise, the hunger he does not notice, and the stretch between 4pm and 6pm. As you read it, you can already see the three small changes worth trying this week.
On the fridge is a calm plan your child helped write, in their own words, with the four cards they chose. When the early signs start on Tuesday evening, nobody has to think. You notice the humming, you offer the ear defenders or the trampoline, and you let the homework wait.
Imagine walking into the school meeting with a one-page profile, two weeks of observations and three clear requests, rather than a feeling. Imagine the grandparents reading a guide that explains it kindly, so the next family party has a quiet room and an early exit already agreed.
Whether you start with the e-book tonight or the observation log tomorrow morning, the first hour is already mapped out for you. Open the Start Here page, type your child's name into Settings, and begin with what you saw today.

When you have worked through it, you will be able to…
Every outcome is practised with a worked example and a tool, not just described.
- Explain the eight senses, including balance, body position and the inner body sense, to family, school and your child
- Describe your child's sensory patterns in neutral words, with two weeks of evidence sorted by sense and pattern
- Gather your child's own view in ways that suit how they communicate
- Tell a meltdown, a tantrum and a shutdown apart, and respond to each with safety and respect
- Write a child calm plan and an adult calm plan covering before, during and after
- Audit your home, set up a calm corner and build movement into the day
- Plan outings, haircuts, dentist visits and celebrations step by step
- Ask school for specific adjustments with a one-page profile and a review date

A taste of Chapter 7
A trigger is the thing that tips your child over. But triggers rarely work alone. It helps to think of a cup that fills through the day: noise, a scratchy jumper, a change of plan, hunger, a hard maths lesson, a friend who was unkind, a bright supermarket. Some things fill it faster than others. Some things empty it a little: movement, a favourite song, a snack, quiet time. When the cup overflows, the last drop gets the blame, but it was everything before it that filled the cup. That is why the same trigger causes a meltdown one day and nothing the next, and why your best lever is usually the load: keeping the cup lower so there is room when the unexpected arrives.
The honest comparison
| Free templates and typical advice | This kit | |
|---|---|---|
| The method | A list of sensory activities with no way to know what works for your child | Notice, Ask, Adjust, Review: observe, hear your child, change the environment first, and keep only what earns its place |
| Observation | A tick-box checklist that ends in a vague score | A daily log by sense, a summary that ranks the senses, and a trigger tracker with warning and recovery times |
| Hard moments | Reward charts and consequences | Child and adult calm plans, co-regulation phrases and a reflect and repair form, never punishment for overload |
| The child's voice | Adults decide everything | Question cards, a child-written calm plan, and a verdict column where the child's 'no' always wins |
| School and family | You start from a blank page | A one-page school profile, 56 scripts, messages and letters, and a guide for grandparents |
| Visuals | Clip art or copies of commercial symbol sets | 13 pages of original, consistent drawings with a word under each picture |

The Sensory and Regulation Kit: FAQs
Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my linkIs this kit medical or therapeutic advice?
No. It is educational. It does not diagnose, treat or replace advice from your child's doctors, occupational therapist, other therapists or school. It helps you observe, organise what you know and work with those professionals. If you are worried about your child's safety or health, contact a health professional or your local emergency number.
Do we need a diagnosis to use it?
No. Many families use it while waiting for an assessment, and the observations it helps you gather are useful to bring to appointments. It works for autistic children, children with ADHD, learning differences, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, developmental delay, speech and language needs, sensory processing differences, or no label at all.
What is the difference between a meltdown, a tantrum and a shutdown?
A tantrum is a burst of frustration that is partly in the child's control. A meltdown is a response to being completely overwhelmed, where the child loses control of their behaviour. A shutdown is also a response to overwhelm, but the child withdraws and goes quiet or still. Meltdowns and shutdowns need safety, less input and time, never punishment.
What are the eight senses?
Sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell, plus three that occupational therapists often describe: the vestibular sense (balance and movement), proprioception (body position and force) and interoception (the inner body sense, such as hunger, thirst, temperature and needing the toilet). Chapter 1 and the Eight Senses Card explain each in plain words.
Which ages is it for?
Roughly 3 to 16. The method is the same; the tools adapt. Younger children use the picture cards and a simple calm plan, while teenagers can write their own school profile and calm plan, and should have a real say in what is shared.
Are the picture cards from a symbol system my child's school uses?
No. Every drawing in the kit is original, and the kit is independent of commercial symbol sets such as PECS, Boardmaker or Widgit. If your child already uses a particular system at school, stay consistent with it and use our cards for the strategies they do not cover.
Will this work with our country's school system?
The method works anywhere. Formal systems differ, such as IEPs and Section 504 plans in the US, SEN support and EHC plans in England, and other systems in Scotland, Wales, India, Australia, Canada, the UAE and Singapore. Appendix A gives dated notes and where to check. Always confirm with your local authority, school and an independent advocate.
How can I measure my own starting point as a parent or carer?
Supporting a child's regulation starts with your own. AssessAll offers the Emotional Intelligence Profile, the Family & Elder Caregiving Judgment assessment and the Resilience & Stress Management assessment, which can help you see your own strengths and pressure points before you begin.
How do I turn the calm plan into daily habits?
Write each strategy as an if-then plan, for example 'If he starts humming at homework, then I offer the trampoline'. The Jobulary guide on if-then plans explains the idea in more depth and helps you turn it into a development plan for yourself as a carer.
Can I share the kit with my child's school or other family members?
Yes, share the documents you fill in for your own child, such as the school profile, calm plans and the grandparents guide. Please do not share or resell the kit files themselves. Schools and organisations wanting to use the kit with several families can email solutions@bodhih.com for a licence.
What is the refund policy?
Digital kits are non-refundable once downloaded. The exceptions are corrupted files that are not fixed within 3 working days, duplicate charges, or failed delivery.
How much does The Sensory and Regulation Kit cost?
₹999 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $29 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.
How do I get the files after paying?
Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.
What software do I need?
Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.
Can I get a refund?
Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.
Can my company buy this for a team?
Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
