What can leaders learn from Rumi?
Rumi's Masnavi teaches leaders that everyone touches only part of a problem, like people feeling an elephant in the dark, that complaints carry stories of loss, and that a polished mirror shows more than a painted wall. Bodhih Training's Rumi for Listening Leaders kit turns these into daily practices and ready tools.

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.
Decisions made from one palm on the elephant
You decide from the part of the problem nearest you, and by Thursday every other group is describing the part you never touched. Nobody says your logic is wrong; it was just incomplete.
Complaints that keep coming back
You fix the stated complaint and another arrives in a different coat. The real story, usually something lost, has not been heard yet.
Meetings that hear your voice most
You prepare well, have ideas and share them. Afterwards, the people who disagreed say so in the corridor, or not at all.
Agreement that might be fear
Your team agrees with you about almost everything. Then a post-mortem shows three people had doubts and did not say them.
Inspirational quotes with no method
Popular 'Rumi quotes' are everywhere, many of them modern inventions. Inspiration without a practice changes nothing on Monday morning.
Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.
Picture next Monday at 08:15. Before you open the inbox, you write today's big decision, the part of it you can see and the part you cannot. You name one person who touches a different part, and by lunch you know something that would have cost you a week to discover later.
In Wednesday's perspective round, you hear three people who see the decision differently, including the one who disagrees. As you write the paragraph that joins their views, notice how far your own view has moved, and how much better the decision is for it.
When the next complaint arrives, you ask what happened before it, and you hear the story of what was lost. Imagine closing that loop in a week, and fixing the cause for everyone.
Twelve weeks from now, whether you started with the elephant check or the listening ratio, you will have a Dashboard showing your talk share falling, perspective rounds held and loops closed, and a team that brings you problems early because the last person who did was thanked.

Her view on page one of the form: "Switch everyone on 1 March. Sure: 4." She mapped six views. Arjun in Pune engineering touched the cost and the night-call risk of old code. Achieng in Nairobi support touched ticket volume. The Manila client touched 05:00 route planning for 300 drivers. Tom in Manchester sales touched renewals. Mei Lin in finance touched the saving. A board member, through the CEO, touched reputation. The strongest dissent came from Achieng: "One date is a gamble with our clients' mornings." Her view was flagged until Nadia heard it directly, which she did on Wednesday. The combined picture was not a compromise. The code would still freeze on time. Clients would switch in three waves sized to support capacity, morning-route clients last, after a rehearsal. Finance would book the saving by quarter. She told all six people how their view had shaped the plan, including Arjun, whose wish to switch everyone at once she could not grant.

Rumi for Listening Leaders: FAQs
Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my linkIs this a religious book?
No. It is a leadership practice kit that reads Rumi's teaching stories as literature and ethics. The Masnavi is a Sufi and Islamic work that many people hold sacred, and the kit says so plainly and treats it with respect. It teaches no ritual, music, prayer or devotional practice, and it works for people of any faith or none.
Which translations do you use, and why?
Only three public-domain English translations: E. H. Whinfield's abridged Masnavi (1898), James Redhouse's verse translation of Book I (1881) and R. A. Nicholson's Selected Poems from the Divani Shamsi Tabriz (1898). They are old enough to be free of copyright, and they let us check every line. All 47 quotations are registered and checked word for word against them; everything else is Bodhih Training's own writing.
Are popular Rumi quotes real?
Many are not. A large number of lines shared online as Rumi's are modern inventions or loose modern versions far from his words. This kit quotes only lines found in the old translations, and where an idea is famous in modern wording, such as the guest house, it shows what the old translation actually says.
What is the elephant in the dark story?
In the Masnavi, people in a dark room each feel one part of an elephant and describe a different animal: a water-pipe, a fan, a pillar, a throne. Rumi compares our senses to the palm of a hand, which cannot hold the whole. For leaders it is a precise picture of decisions made from one function's view.
How do I listen better as a manager?
Start with three habits: estimate your talk share after key meetings and aim for about a third in one-to-ones, summarise before you reply, and invite the quietest person privately. Chapter 4 and the Listening Ratio Tracker walk you through them.
What is a perspective round?
A short, structured way to hear at least three people who see a decision differently, including someone who disagrees, before a decision that is hard to reverse. The decision owner then combines the views, decides by a set date and tells everyone how their view shaped it. It is not a vote or consensus.
How do I measure my starting point?
If you want an outside view, AssessAll offers the Workplace Listening Assessment for Employees, Managers and Support Teams, the Emotional Intelligence Profile and Conflict Navigation and Resolution. They are separate products; the kit's own Team Pulse, listening ratio and Dashboard track your practice over twelve weeks.
Can I turn this into a development plan?
Yes. Many leaders take the habits that stick after twelve weeks into a personal development plan. You can build one on Jobulary, a separate product, using your Dashboard and Weekly Review notes as evidence.
Does it replace HR, legal or counselling advice?
No. The kit is educational. Bullying, harassment, discrimination, safety issues and misconduct follow your organisation's process and local law, and anyone in distress should be pointed to proper support such as an employee assistance programme or their doctor.
How does it relate to other Bodhih kits?
It goes deep on perspective, listening and humility. For dialogue rounds, see Talanoa: Pacific Dialogue for Leaders; for questioning, The Socratic Leader-Coach; for hard feedback scripts, the Difficult Conversations Kit; for one-to-ones, the One-to-One and Feedback System; and for ten traditions applied to personal life, Old Wisdom for Modern Days.
How much does Rumi for Listening Leaders cost?
₹1,299 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $34 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.
How do I get the files after paying?
Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.
What software do I need?
Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.
Can I get a refund?
Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.
Can my company buy this for a team?
Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
