How do I plan a room makeover step by step?
Start with how the room is used, then measure it properly, find your style, test colours in your own light, plan light layers and the layout, set a budget by category, shop from a list and follow a set order of works. The Room Makeover Planner from Bodhih Training gives you a workbook, worksheets and a four-week calendar for each step.

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.
The room is half done and stuck
The new sofa is in, the old one is in the hall and the paint testers are still on the wall. A makeover without an order of works tends to stall in the middle, when the room is worse than when you started.
Things do not fit
A desk that blocks a radiator, a sofa that will not pass the door, a rug that floats. Most of these mistakes come from measuring roughly or not at all, and each return costs money and a weekend.
The budget disappears into the first few purchases
Spending in the order things catch your eye leaves nothing for lighting, storage or the delivery charge. A plan by category, with a contingency, keeps the room in balance.
You rent, so you think you cannot change anything
Many tenancy agreements say ask, not no. Without the right words and a clear plan, it is easy to never ask, or to ask in a way that is easy to refuse.
Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.
Imagine Sunday evening at the end of your plan weekend. The room brief is written. The measurements are in the workbook, and the Furniture Fit sheet has already told you which sofa will pass through the door. As you open the Sequence sheet, you can see every step for the next four weeks, each with a date and the file to open.
On Wednesday of week one you put two large colour samples on the wall and photograph them morning and evening. You send the landlord letter, or the trade quote request, with the brief attached. When the replies come back, you already know what you are comparing, because every quote answers the same questions.
By week three the dusty work is behind you. The paint is dry, the curtain pole is up, the rug is down and the tall bookcase is anchored to the wall. You check the dashboard on Sunday and see exactly what is committed, what is left and which returns are due.
Then comes the part people remember. Lamps on, cushions in, one large print above the sofa. You take the after photo from the same spot as the before photo. Whether you start with the brief tonight or with the tape measure tomorrow morning, the kit keeps the order so you can enjoy the room.

A paint chip is a promise made under shop lighting. Your walls answer to your window direction, your trees, your bulbs and the size of the room. Colour is the cheapest big change in a makeover and also the easiest to get wrong, so it deserves a short process. A useful idea used widely in interior design is the 60-30-10 split: roughly 60% of the room in a main colour, 30% in a secondary colour, and 10% in an accent. It is a starting point, not a law. Its value is that it stops a room from being one flat colour or a crowd of competing ones. In most rooms the 60% is walls and large floor areas, the 30% is the big furniture and textiles, and the 10% is cushions, art, a lamp, a single chair.

The Room Makeover Planner: FAQs
Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my linkHow long does a room makeover take?
With this method, planning takes a weekend and the work takes about four weeks for one room, depending on delivery times and trades. The calendar and Sequence sheet give each step a date from your start date, and you can move them to fit your life.
How do I measure a room for furniture?
Measure each wall at floor level, both diagonals, the ceiling height, every door, window, radiator and socket from the nearest corner, and the narrowest point on the way in. The Measure and Plan worksheet sets the order, and the workbook checks each piece against your space and door.
What is the 60-30-10 colour rule?
It is a widely used design starting point: about 60% of a room in a main colour, 30% in a secondary colour and 10% in an accent. The kit shows how to apply it in your own light with large samples tested for a week.
Does it work in metric and imperial, and in my currency?
Yes. Type Metric or Imperial and your currency label on the Settings sheet. Every calculator follows those cells, and the printable grids come in both scales.
I rent. Is this kit useful for me?
Yes. Chapter 9 and the worked example cover rental-friendly makeovers, and the Ready-to-Send Letters include a landlord permission request with a schedule of changes and what you will restore. Always read your tenancy agreement and keep the written reply.
Can I do the electrics myself?
The kit treats it as a job for professionals. Electrical work on fixed wiring, gas, structural, roofing and asbestos work should be done by qualified, registered or licensed professionals as your local rules require. The DIY or Hire sheet flags these tasks automatically, and the dated country notes point to the official sources.
Is this professional design, building or legal advice?
No. The kit is educational and teaches a planning method. Rules on permits, tenancies and building work differ by country and region, so check the official source, your agreement and a qualified electrician, surveyor, structural engineer, architect, lawyer or solicitor where relevant.
Which apps do I need?
Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice for the workbook; any PDF reader that fills forms, such as Acrobat Reader; Word or Google Docs for the templates; and any calendar app for the ICS file. The cut-outs print on A4 or US Letter at 100%.
How can I measure my starting point before I plan?
If you want to see how you handle budgets and estimates before you start, the AssessAll assessments Budget and Resource Allocation Reasoning, Estimation and Number Sense, and the Plan Strength Assessment with an Eight-Week Re-Measure give you a baseline. They are optional and sold separately.
How do I turn the makeover habit into a development plan?
Finishing a room is a planning skill you can reuse. Jobulary's guide to if-then plans shows how to turn an intention into a specific trigger and action, which pairs well with the Sequence sheet and calendar.
How much does The Room Makeover Planner cost?
₹599 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $17 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.
How do I get the files after paying?
Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.
What software do I need?
Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.
Can I get a refund?
Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.
Can my company buy this for a team?
Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
