Quick answer

How do I plan a homeschool year?

Check your local legal requirements first, then set 3 to 5 evidence-based goals per child, map each subject across terms, design a weekly rhythm with a light day, keep a one-line daily log and a curated portfolio, and review each week, term and year. The Homeschool Year System by Bodhih Training gives you the method and every tool to run it.

Sound familiar?

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.

Too many choices, no system

Curricula, approaches, forums, catalogues. You have read a great deal and still do not know what Monday looks like. You want a way of running the year, not another opinion.

Several children, one adult

The eight-year-old needs you, the five-year-old needs you more, and the eleven-year-old is waiting. Teaching several ages at once is the part nobody prepared you for.

Records that pile up or do not exist

Either everything goes in a box nobody opens, or nothing is written down at all. Neither helps when an authority, a grandparent or your own doubt asks what the children have learned.

Running on empty by half-term

Plans that only work if nothing goes wrong, every subject taught by you, no day off. The year depends on your energy, and the plan is not protecting it.

Now imagine this

Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.

Imagine the last week of August. You open the workbook, type the children's names and your term dates into Settings, and write one sentence per child that begins 'By next summer, I hope'. By the end of the evening those hopes are goals with evidence, and term 1 is mapped for maths and literacy.

Picture an ordinary Tuesday in October. The youngest has your attention first, then the eldest starts her practice while you teach the middle child with a worked example. At 11.45 you write six lines in the Lesson Log. That is the record done, and the Dashboard quietly adds it up.

Whether you start with the Settings sheet tonight or the Year Vision form tomorrow, each piece makes the next one easier. When the council's letter arrives, you send the philosophy statement and a summary from your records. When a resource is not working, the Decision Card tells you whether to adjust or switch.

And in July, as you sit down with the folders and the Dashboard, notice how much of the annual report has already written itself. The children read out their favourite work, you print the certificates, and next year's plan starts from what worked.

A taste of Chapter 3

A useful home-education goal has three parts: who, what they will be able to do, and how you will know. "Ruby will read more" becomes "Ruby will read 30 chapter books of her choice this year and narrate one chapter a week in her own words." "Max will improve his maths" becomes "Max will know his times tables to 10 by heart and solve two-step word problems with multiplication, shown in a term-end quiz and his workbook."

This is a simple version of SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, time-bound), an idea usually credited to George Doran's 1981 management article, adapted for children. You do not need every letter. You need a sentence a child could understand and evidence you could show an authority, a grandparent or yourself in June.

The Homeschool Year System: FAQs

Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my link

What is in The Homeschool Year System?

An e-book in 10 chapters plus 18 tools: a 16-sheet Homeschool Year Workbook with two dashboards, 4 fillable PDF forms, 4 Word templates including 32 messages and 4 letters, a worked example pack, an AI prompt pack with 27 prompts, a start-here map, 3 cheat sheets, 14 colour print pages, a calendar file and a lesson board import.

Does it work with any curriculum?

Yes. The kit is curriculum-neutral. You choose your own resources, and the Curriculum Map sheet has a column for mapping topics to a framework you follow, such as England's National Curriculum, US state standards, CBSE, ICSE, Cambridge, IB or the Australian Curriculum. Always check codes against the official document.

Can I use it for more than one child?

Yes. It was designed for families teaching one to four children aged roughly 5 to 14. Chapter 6 covers multi-age teaching, the Lesson Plan form has a column for each child, and the dashboards show hours and ratings by child.

How do I plan a homeschool year?

Start with your local legal requirements, then write 3 to 5 goals per child with evidence, map each subject across terms, design a weekly rhythm with a light day, and plan each term on one page. Keep a short daily log and a curated portfolio, and review weekly, termly and yearly.

How many hours a day should homeschooling take?

There is no single answer. One-to-one teaching moves faster than a classroom, so many families find a few focused hours a day enough for primary-age children. Some places set minimum days or hours, so check your local rules and set your targets on the Settings sheet.

Is home education legal where I live?

It depends on the country, and often the state or province. It is permitted with few requirements in some places, needs registration, notification or assessment in others, and is restricted in a few. The Country Notes cheat sheet, dated October 2026, tells you where to check.

Is this legal or educational advice?

No. The Homeschool Year System is educational content. It is not legal, medical, psychological or special educational needs advice. Check your local education authority and official sources, and talk to a qualified professional about any concern for a child.

How can I measure my starting point as a home educator?

If you want a structured look at your own teaching, AssessAll offers the Lesson Design and Questioning Technique Assessment for Teachers and Trainers, the Study Skills and Learning Strategies assessment, and the Plan Strength Assessment with an eight-week re-measure, which suits a term plan.

How do I turn what I learn into a development plan for myself?

Most adult learning happens by doing, which is the idea behind the 70-20-10 model. Jobulary's guide, Learn by doing: the 70-20-10 model explained, shows how to combine practice, feedback and a little formal learning, which fits a parent learning to teach.

Can I get a refund?

Digital kits are non-refundable once downloaded. If a file is corrupted and not fixed within 3 working days, if you were charged twice, or if delivery failed, contact solutions@bodhih.com and we will put it right.

How much does The Homeschool Year System cost?

₹1,299 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $34 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.

How do I get the files after paying?

Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.

What software do I need?

Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.

Can my company buy this for a team?

Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
