How do I help my child love reading?
Make four things true at home: books within reach (access), a short daily reading slot apart from screens (time), someone who reads aloud and talks about books (company), and children choosing most of what they read (choice). The Family Reading Programme kit from Bodhih Training gives you the plan, tracker and printables for each.

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.
They can read, but they don't
Your child passes the school checks, then never opens a book by choice. It's a quiet worry, and the usual advice of read more, log more, makes it worse.
Reading has become one more job
Reading records to sign, levelled books in plastic wallets, a bedtime battle and a library book due on Saturday that nobody can find.
Not sure what helps
Phonics, levels, comics, audiobooks, apps, screen time, rewards: every friend and website says something different, and nobody gives you a plan.
Worried about falling behind
Reading seems harder for your child than for classmates, and you don't know whether to wait, push or ask for help.
Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.
Imagine an ordinary Tuesday evening a few months from now. The plates are cleared, and as you sit on the sofa with your own book, the children pick from the basket beside you: a comic, a picture book, the next chapter of a goalkeeper biography. Fifteen minutes, nobody nagging, everybody reading.
Picture the Saturday library trip with every due date already in the tracker, and the bingo card on the fridge reminding your nine-year-old that a book set in another country is still unclaimed. You notice he is choosing, and that changes everything.
Now think of the first Sunday of the month. Grandma is on the video call, a bowl of popcorn is going round, and as you ask the first book club question, your quietest child has an opinion and wants to argue it.
Whether you start with the read-aloud rota tonight or the reader profiles this weekend, each step of the year is already laid out, with the file to open at every turn.

Make it a growth plan →A taste of Chapter 1
Being able to read and choosing to read are two different things. Schools, quite rightly, spend most of their time on the first: decoding words, building fluency, answering questions about a passage. The second, the habit of reaching for a book because you want to know what happens, mostly grows at home. And it matters more than many families realise. The OECD, which runs the PISA tests of fifteen-year-olds, has reported in its "PISA in Focus" series that students who read widely tend to be more effective learners and do better at school. Reading for pleasure gives children hours of practice that don't feel like practice, a wider vocabulary, knowledge of the world and the stamina for long texts. No worksheet can give a child all of that.
The honest comparison

| Formats | Only 'proper' books count | Comics, audiobooks, non-fiction, magazines and being read to all count and are tracked |

| Languages | English only | A family language plan and a language column in every log |
| Rewards | Prizes for the most books | Bingo, family tree and self-set challenges that reward variety |

The Family Reading Programme: FAQs
Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my linkHow do I get my child to enjoy reading?
Make four things true at home: books within reach, a short daily slot apart from screens, someone who reads aloud and talks about books, and children choosing most of what they read. Start with whichever is weakest. The e-book shows you how to audit them in fifteen minutes.
Should I keep reading aloud once my child can read?
Yes. Children understand stories well above the level they can read alone, so reading aloud keeps building vocabulary and enjoyment right into the teenage years. Ten to twenty minutes most days is plenty, and grandparents, siblings and audiobooks can share the job.
Do comics and audiobooks count as reading?
Yes. Comics and graphic novels ask readers to infer between panels; audiobooks build vocabulary and the experience of finishing a book. Struggling decoders still need short practice in the school's method too. The tracker logs every format so you can see the whole picture.
How do I know if a book is the right level?
Use the one-minute check on the Decision Card: read a middle page, count tricky words, ask what is happening. Too easy is fine for fun, just right is for reading alone, and too hard but wanted is for reading together. Let interest lead except for a beginner's school practice book.
When should I worry about my child's reading?
Talk to the teacher if you see slow, effortful reading of simple words, difficulty linking letters and sounds after plenty of teaching, or distress around reading, especially if it continues for a few months. The kit includes a notice, record, talk, plan, review cycle and ready letters. A hearing and vision check is a sensible early step.
Does it work for home-educating families and different school systems?
Yes. It is curriculum-neutral, with dated notes on England, the US, India (CBSE, ICSE and NEP 2020), IB, Cambridge and Australia, and on home education rules in several countries. Rules change, so always check your local education authority.
Is this kit professional advice?
No. It is educational content for families, not medical, psychological, legal or educational assessment advice. Only qualified professionals can assess reading difficulties such as dyslexia. If you are worried about hearing, sight, speech or reading progress, talk to the teacher, your doctor or a specialist.
Is it safe to use AI tools for reading ideas?
The AI prompt pack is written for adults. Many AI tools set a minimum age of 13 and need parental permission under 18, so check the terms. Never paste children's personal details, and look up every suggested book before promising it. To measure your starting point on digital safety, try the Digital Parenting & Online Safety Judgment assessment on AssessAll.
Can I measure my own skills in asking good questions about books?
Yes. The Lesson Design and Questioning Technique Assessment for Teachers and Trainers on AssessAll measures your starting point on questioning, and the Study Skills & Learning Strategies assessment is useful for older children who are learning to learn. Neither is needed to use the kit.
How do I turn this into a habit that sticks for me as a parent?
Most of what changes a family's reading happens in ordinary moments, not in courses. Jobulary's guide to the 70-20-10 model explains how learning by doing, with support from others and a little formal learning, turns into lasting habits. Use it to turn this kit into your own development plan.
What software do I need?
Any spreadsheet app (Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice), a word processor (Word or Google Docs), a PDF reader that fills forms, and a printer for the printables. The calendar imports into Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar.
How much does The Family Reading Programme cost?
₹599 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $17 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.
How do I get the files after paying?
Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.
Can I get a refund?
Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.
Can my company buy this for a team?
Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
