Quick answer

How do I run a company email newsletter that people open?

Write a one-sentence promise of who it is for and how often, build the list with clear consent and double opt-in, plan a quarter of issues, write one idea with one call to action, automate welcome and re-engagement flows, authenticate your domain, check every send, and review clicks and conversions monthly. The Email Newsletter System kit from Bodhih Training gives you a file for each step.

Sound familiar?

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.

A newsletter nobody can explain

It goes out because it always has. Sales says it keeps you visible, customers never mention it, and nobody can point to a deal or an order it helped.

A list that grew the wrong way

Badge scans imported after a trade show, a pre-ticked box on one form, a pop-up promising insights that never arrive. Complaints creep up and mailbox providers start filtering the email for everyone.

Cadence that drifts

Three emails in one week when a launch lands, then silence for six. Readers forget who you are, and the next email gets reported as spam.

Rules you are not sure you meet

Google, Yahoo and Microsoft now require authentication, one-click unsubscribe and low complaint rates from bulk senders. SPF, DKIM and DMARC sound like someone else's job until your email lands in spam.

Numbers that flatter

Open rate went up and the board was pleased, but Apple Mail Privacy Protection has inflated opens since 2021. Nobody is sure which emails actually led to a demo or a sale.

AI drafts and no rules

An assistant can draft an issue in a minute, and every draft starts the same way. It is hard to know what to hand over, what to check and what must stay a human decision.

Now imagine this

Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.

Picture the first Monday after you open the kit. You spend twenty minutes on the strategy canvas and come out with one sentence: who the newsletter is for, what they get and how often. By lunchtime it is on the sign-up form, and the Settings sheet in the workbook holds your cadence and targets.

Now it is the Wednesday before a send. As you work down the pre-send checklist, the test email shows a link pointing at the wrong page, and the recipient count is 400 higher than last time. You hold, fix the segment and the link, and send on the promised Thursday morning. The Send Log fills in every rate within a minute of typing eight numbers.

Imagine the end of the month. You open the monthly review form and the Dashboard, and in 45 minutes you know which issue drove the most clicks, whether complaints stayed under your limit and how many new readers stayed for 90 days. The five-line report goes to leadership with one decision to make, and nobody asks about open rate.

And then the quarter review. The welcome series is running with exit rules, the silent subscribers have been asked once and removed, and the DMARC reports show only senders you recognise. Whether you start with the canvas tonight or the workbook tomorrow morning, the next issue will be the first one sent on purpose.

A taste of Chapter 1

Two ideas from marketing research underpin this. The first is the 95-5 observation that the LinkedIn B2B Institute published in 2021 with Professor John Dawes of the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute: at any moment, only about 5% of business buyers are in the market for what you sell; the other 95% will not buy for months or years. You cannot persuade the 95% to buy now. What you can do is make sure your name comes to mind when they enter the market. Byron Sharp and his Ehrenberg-Bass colleagues call this mental availability: being thought of, in the buying situation, with recognisable brand cues. A fortnightly email that people read is one of the cheapest ways a small company has to stay thought of.

Questions buyers ask

The Email Newsletter System: FAQs

Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my link

How often should a company send a newsletter?

As often as you can keep up for a year without the quality dropping. For a team of one or two with other jobs that is usually fortnightly or monthly; weekly works with a light format such as a curated digest. Put the cadence on the sign-up form and protect it on the Editorial Calendar.

What is a good email click rate?

It depends on your industry, list and format, so use published benchmarks only as a first target. Mailchimp's benchmark page, with data last updated in December 2023, shows an overall average click rate of 2.62% for campaigns to at least 1,000 subscribers. Within three months, replace that with your own history from the Send Log.

Is open rate still worth tracking?

Only with a caution flag. Since Apple released Mail Privacy Protection in 2021, many opens are recorded whether or not a person read the email. The kit leads with clicks, conversions, unsubscribes, complaints, net list growth and revenue per thousand delivered.

Do I need SPF, DKIM and DMARC for a small list?

Google and Yahoo have required them from bulk senders since February 2024, and Microsoft from May 2025, and the same records help every sender. Chapter 8 explains each one in plain words and the e-book includes the exact message to send to whoever manages your domain.

Does the kit tell me what the law is in my country?

No. It teaches good practice that works across countries, and a dated cheat sheet lists what to check in the EU, UK, US, Canada, India, Australia, Singapore, the Gulf, the Philippines and several African markets. Check your privacy and anti-spam law, your company policy and a qualified adviser before you collect addresses or send to a new country.

Which email platform does the kit use?

None in particular. The kit is tool-agnostic and gives criteria for choosing a platform: authentication and one-click unsubscribe support, double opt-in, segments and flows with exit rules, complaint reporting, time-zone sending and full export of your list and consent records.

Can I use AI to write our emails?

Yes, for drafts, cuts, subject line candidates, alt text and spotting patterns in your numbers. A person decides what is sent, checks every fact and link, and keeps subscriber data out of tools not approved for it. The prompt pack has 31 prompts, each with what to paste in and what to check.

Does it work for B2C as well as B2B?

Yes. The worked example follows a B2B newsletter, and the book shows where B2C differs: larger lists, higher cadence, designed emails with product images and revenue you can read the next morning. The Send Log counts conversions and revenue however you define them.

How can I measure my starting point?

Bodhih's sister platform AssessAll offers the Global Email Writing Drill, Data Interpretation: Tables and Charts, and the Business Email Tone and Etiquette Assessment. They are separate products, linked from the Start Here map, and show where your writing and number skills stand before you begin.

How do I turn this into a development plan?

Jobulary helps you turn the skills in the kit (writing, analysis, planning) into a development plan for yourself or your team. The Start Here map links to how a Jobulary development plan works.

How much does The Email Newsletter System cost?

₹999 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $29 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.

How do I get the files after paying?

Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.

What software do I need?

Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.

Can I get a refund?

Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.

Can my company buy this for a team?

Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
