Quick answer

How do you care for someone with dementia at home day to day?

Give the day a steady shape with four or five anchors, respond to feelings rather than correcting facts, treat changes in behaviour as messages, keep simple records, make the home safer and take regular breaks. The Dementia Care Day-by-Day Kit from Bodhih Training gives family carers the method, the diary and the exact words to do this.

Sound familiar?

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.

Every evening goes wrong at the same time

Late afternoon arrives and the questions, pacing and tears start. Without a record, the pattern stays invisible and every evening feels like the first.

You correct, they cry, nobody wins

You tell the truth gently and it lands like fresh bad news. You need different words, not more patience.

Appointments drift

Eleven minutes with the doctor and you forget the falls, the nights and the cough. You need evidence on one page.

The family offers 'anything you need' and nothing happens

Vague offers do not cover Thursday afternoons. A written agreement with names and hours does.

You are running on empty

Broken nights, cancelled plans, snapping at someone you love. You need a way to see the warning signs and act before you break.

Now imagine this

Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.

Picture a Sunday evening a month from now. You open the Dementia Care Diary, glance at the Patterns sheet and see the late afternoon peak shrinking since you moved the lamps on and the music to 15.30. You know it, because it is on the chart.

As you fill in the week's line on the Respite and Support sheet, notice how the zone has moved from red to amber, because Thursday afternoons are now covered by the person who signed the family care agreement.

When the next appointment comes, you hand the doctor a one-page note with three priorities and the numbers behind them, and you leave the room with decisions written down. And when your mother asks for her own mother at six o'clock, you already know the words that keep her calm.

Whether you start with the diary tonight or with the life story sitting at the weekend, the kit meets you where you are and grows with the care.

  • Run a steady daily routine with activities that suit the person
  • Spot the times and triggers behind distress from your own records
  • Walk through the home and fix the highest-priority risks first
  • Walk into every appointment with three priorities and the evidence
  • Share the care in writing and book regular breaks for yourself
  • Start planning ahead while the person can still take part

A taste of Chapter 10

Priya noticed it on a Sunday. She snapped at her mother over a spilled cup of tea, then sat in the bathroom and cried. She had not slept a full night in three weeks, had cancelled two dinners with friends, and had started dreading her own phone. Caring is work. The World Health Organization reports that unpaid carers of people with dementia provide an average of five hours of care and supervision every day, and that women provide 70 percent of care hours. Five hours a day is a part-time job, often on top of a real one. Put plainly: if you break down, the person you care for loses their most important support. Looking after yourself is not a luxury or a betrayal. It is part of the care plan, as much as the medicines record or the safety walk-through.

Dementia Care Day-by-Day Kit: FAQs

Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my link

What is in the Dementia Care Day-by-Day Kit?

An e-book plus 18 tools: a 14-sheet care diary workbook, four fillable forms, six Word templates (phrase book, scripts and letters, care plan, family agreement, worked example, AI prompts), four cheat sheets, ten large-print printable pages, a four-week calendar and a task board import.

Is this medical advice?

No. The kit is educational content, not medical, legal or financial advice. It helps you organise daily care and prepare for professionals. For anything clinical, ask the doctor, nurse or pharmacist. For law and money, ask a qualified professional in your country. In an emergency, call your local emergency number.

Does the kit tell me what medicines to give?

No. The Medicines Record only records what a clinician has prescribed, copied from the label. It gives no doses or recommendations. Never start, stop or change a medicine without asking the doctor or pharmacist.

What should I say when someone with dementia wants to go home?

Respond to the feeling rather than the fact: name it, ask about the home they are thinking of, reassure them they are safe with you, then move gently to tea, a walk or a small job. The phrase book has six phrases for this moment alone.

How do I cope with sundowning?

Log a week of evening upsets with times, find your peak on the Patterns sheet, then change two things about 30 minutes before it, such as lamps on, curtains closed, calm music or a simple job. Compare the next week. If nights stay hard, take the logs to the doctor.

Does it work outside the UK and US?

Yes. The method does not depend on any one care system, the workbook works in any currency, and Appendix A has dated notes on helplines, carers' leave, driving and legal authority for several countries, including India, Canada, Australia and Singapore, marked for checking.

How can I measure my starting point as a carer?

Bodhih's partner platform AssessAll offers the Family & Elder Caregiving Judgment assessment, the Emotional Intelligence Profile and the Resilience & Stress Management assessment. Many carers find it useful to see their strengths and stress levels before they set up the routine.

How do I make new routines stick when I am exhausted?

Tie each new habit to a cue you already have: 'When I make the evening tea, I fill in the diary.' Jobulary's guide to if-then plans that make habits stick explains the method, and it pairs well with the kit's ten-minute evening diary reminder.

What software do I need?

Any spreadsheet app (Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice), a word processor, a PDF reader that fills forms (such as Acrobat Reader) and any calendar app. The print pages print on A4 or US Letter.

Can I share the files with my family?

Yes, within your own household and the family members helping with this person's care. Please don't share or resell the files beyond that.

How much does Dementia Care Day-by-Day Kit cost?

₹999 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $29 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.

How do I get the files after paying?

Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.

Can I get a refund?

Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.

Can my company buy this for a team?

Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
