Quick answer

What are Xenophon's main leadership lessons?

Xenophon taught that real leadership wins willing effort, not mere compliance. Leaders earn it by looking after their people's welfare, knowing the work, sharing hardship, judging fairly, keeping promises and hearing the truth. Xenophon's Leadership Lessons from Bodhih Training turns these ideas into a daily practice, team pulse and 12-week programme.

Sound familiar?

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.

Effort that disappears when you look away

The team performs when you are in the room and drifts when you are not. Rewards and reminders help for a week, then the gap returns.

Good intentions, no rhythm

You know you should check in, recognise people and ask for feedback. Without a daily and weekly habit, the urgent work always wins.

Fairness you cannot see

Recognition and opportunities drift towards the people who sit nearest or talk most. Remote and shift colleagues notice before you do.

Nobody tells you the truth

Every report says on track and every idea is greeted warmly. Then the problem arrives fully grown, and people say nobody wanted to be the one to tell you.

Now imagine this

Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.

Imagine Monday at 8.15. You open the welfare check, write three names and one small action for each, and by lunchtime the spare-parts approval that had blocked a supervisor for nine days is signed. Nobody asked you to do it. That is the point.

On Friday afternoon you score yourself on six drivers in fifteen minutes, and the lowest one tells you exactly where to look next week. As you open the Followership Index at the end of the month, you see which colleagues your recognition has missed, and you put it right before anyone has to ask.

When the hard week comes, you already know your visible share. When a leader suddenly disappears, your team has rehearsed the six moves. And when you ask for honest feedback, people answer, because they have seen what you do with it.

Whether you start with the morning check tomorrow or the card deck at Monday's huddle, the system carries you through twelve weeks and then a full year of one principle a week.

  • You will be able to measure how willingly your team follows you, month by month, with a seven-statement pulse

  • You will be able to keep a promise ledger and report early when a promise breaks
  • You will be able to lead the first hour when leaders are suddenly gone, and rehearse it each quarter
  • You will be able to ask for honest feedback in a way people actually answer
  • You will be able to run a team workshop that ends with a one-page Leadership Code

A taste of the Conclusion

The test in this kit is gentler but the same in spirit. Would they choose you again? Not because you are powerful, popular or clever, but because you looked after their welfare, knew the work, set the example, kept things fair, heard the truth and noticed what they did. You now have a rhythm to build that: the daily welfare check, the Friday pulse, the monthly fairness review, the quarterly drill and the twelve-week programme. At week 12, run the Followership Index pulse again, compare it with week 1, and start the next cycle with your lowest driver. If you want an outside measure of your starting point, the AssessAll Team Building and Collaboration, First-Time Manager Readiness and Performance Management and Accountability assessments give you one. If you want to turn what you learn into a development plan, build it on Jobulary.

Questions buyers ask

Xenophon's Leadership Lessons: FAQs

Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my link

Is this a religious book?

No. It is philosophy and heritage put to work in everyday leadership. Xenophon's characters pray and read omens, as people in his world did; the kit leaves those practices aside with respect and takes only the leadership ideas. It is written for readers of any faith or none.

Which translation do you use and why?

Every quotation comes word for word from H. G. Dakyns's translations, published by Macmillan in the 1890s, with the Cyropaedia in Dakyns's version as revised by F. M. Stawell in 1914. They are in the public domain, so nothing is borrowed from any modern translation or book. Each quotation is followed by Bodhih's own plain-English line.

What are Xenophon's main leadership lessons?

That leadership is about winning willing effort rather than compliance; that a leader exists for the good of the people led; that competence earns trust; that leaders should share hardship, judge fairly, keep promises and hear the truth; and that a group can recover from losing its leaders if someone steps up quickly and gives people something to do.

Is the Cyropaedia historically accurate?

Not entirely. It is an idealised and partly fictional portrait of Cyrus the Great, written more than a century and a half after his death. The kit treats it as a book of leadership ideas, not as history, and is honest about the parts that do not translate to modern workplaces.

How much time does the daily practice take?

About five minutes each morning for the welfare check, fifteen minutes on Friday for the weekly review and thirty minutes a month for the pulse and fairness review. The quarterly crisis drill takes an hour.

Does it work for remote, hybrid and shift teams?

Yes. The welfare check works on calls and chat, the Followership Index splits recognition by work pattern to reveal distance bias, and the workshop guide includes a version for shifts and time zones.

How can I measure my starting point?

Run the Followership Index pulse in week 1. For an outside view, the AssessAll Team Building & Collaboration, First-Time Manager Readiness Assessment and Performance Management & Accountability assessments give you a baseline to compare against at week 12.

How do I turn this into a development plan?

Take your two lowest drivers from the Friday review and the pulse, and the amateur areas from the Socrates questions form, and build them into a personal development plan on Jobulary.

Can I use the kit with my team?

Yes, with your own team: the cards, emails, workshop guide and pulse are designed for that. The licence is for your own use and your own team. For company-wide or programme use, contact solutions@bodhih.com about team licences.

Do I need to know anything about ancient Greece?

No. The introduction explains who Xenophon was in a few paragraphs, every quotation has a plain-English line, and the About the Sources card covers dates and translations on two pages.

How much does Xenophon's Leadership Lessons cost?

₹1,299 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $34 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.

How do I get the files after paying?

Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.

What software do I need?

Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.

Can I get a refund?

Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.

Can my company buy this for a team?

Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
