What are Confucian leadership principles?
Confucian leadership principles hold that leaders influence through character and example, keep roles true to their names, show respect through shared forms, test decisions by reciprocity and serve with honest candour. The Confucian Leader kit from Bodhih Training turns them into a daily practice with workbooks, forms and a 12-week programme.

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.
Titles that no longer mean anything
Someone was promoted in March and nobody said what the new title meant. Two people each think the other owns the backlog. Work falls into the gap between the name and the job.
Rules that teach people to dodge
You add a policy, a points system, a sign-in sheet. Each helps for a fortnight. The underlying behaviour does not change, because the example behind the rule has not changed.
Meetings and welcomes that have gone hollow
The Monday huddle is a reading of numbers. The remote colleagues hear decisions last. New joiners describe the team as polite but cold.
Rules you would not accept yourself
A leave ban, a nomination rule, an early meeting slot for one time zone. People notice when a rule bends for the leader, and they rarely say so.
Nodding at decisions you think will fail
You disagree, but the boss dislikes being contradicted. So you say nothing in the room and everything outside it, and the plan fails exactly as you expected.
Good intentions that do not last
Leadership books inspire for a week. Without a daily and weekly rhythm, the habits fade as soon as the work gets busy.
Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.
Picture this evening. Before you close the laptop, you open the Daily Practice sheet and answer three questions that a student of Confucius asked himself every day. Faithful, sincere, practised. One line for tomorrow. Five minutes, and the day stops running in your head.
Now imagine Friday of week seven. As you fill in the Role Map, a gap score of 8 turns red next to the person whose title changed last spring. On Monday you sit down with the Role Clarity Review, each fill in your half, and find the misunderstanding that has been costing the team an hour every morning. By Wednesday it is written down and the team knows who decides.
Think about the monthly ritual review. The team rates the huddle, the welcome and the Friday wins round, stops one, redesigns one, and the colleagues in another time zone speak first for the first time. You notice that people stay a minute after the meeting ends.
And when the next decision arrives that you believe will fail, you open the Respectful Dissent Planner, write what you support, what worries you and a better option, and ask for fifteen minutes. Whether you begin with the cards tonight or the Role Clarity Map on Monday, the next twelve weeks are already laid out.

A taste of Chapter 1
Rafael runs a forty-person engineering group in São Paulo. In a quarterly review, his director asks why a release slipped. Rafael has two true answers available. One is that a supplier delivered late. The other is that he approved a scope change in week three without moving the date, because he did not want an awkward conversation. He gives the first answer. Nobody in the room knows the second one except Rafael, and Bruna, the tech lead who warned him in week three. Bruna will not say anything. She will simply trust him a little less, and next time she will warn him a little less loudly. Most leadership failure looks like this: a small choice between looking good and doing right, made where only one other person can see.

Is this a religious book?
No. The Confucian Leader is philosophy and heritage put to work in everyday leadership. It contains no devotional practice, ritual worship or claims about the divine. Many people hold these texts in deep respect, and the kit is written to honour that, while being usable by readers of any faith or none.
Which translation do you use and why?
Every quotation comes word for word from James Legge's translations: the Analects from The Chinese Classics, volume one (1861), and Mencius as reprinted in 1900. They are careful, complete nineteenth-century translations in the public domain, so no living translator's wording is borrowed. Legge's Victorian English is decoded in a glossary, and every quotation has a plain-English line written by Bodhih.
What did Confucius say about leadership?
In short: lead by example rather than punishment, make sure names and roles match reality, treat people with humaneness, show respect through shared forms, apply the rule of reciprocity, and serve honestly even when that means disagreeing. The e-book takes each idea and gives you a method, a worked example and a file to use.
Doesn't Confucianism mean obedience and rigid hierarchy?
It has been used that way, including to keep juniors silent and women out of public life, and the kit says so plainly. The texts themselves often push the other way: Confucius told a student to stand up to his ruler to his face, and Mencius argued that a ruler who harms the people loses his legitimacy. Every principle in the kit carries a 'what this does not mean' note.
What is the rectification of names, and how does it help a manager?
Asked what he would do first in government, Confucius said the names must be put right, because when titles do not match reality, communication and work fail. In the kit this becomes role clarity: the Role Clarity Map scores the gap between each title, the real work and decision rights, and the review form helps you fix it in one conversation.
How much time does it take each day?
Five minutes each evening for the three questions, about twenty minutes on Friday, forty-five minutes a month with your team for the ritual review, and a short team moment each week. The calendar file and task board put these into the tools you already use.
How do I measure my starting point?
Take the AssessAll Ethical Leadership & Judgment assessment before you begin, and if you lead a team, Coaching & Developing Others and Team Building & Collaboration too. Repeat them after the twelve weeks. The workbook's dashboard and team pulse show your progress in between.
How do I turn this into a development plan?
Use the Mentoring Plan form for each person on your team and your own Situations Log for yourself. To build a longer individual development plan that lasts beyond the first month, Jobulary's guide 'A development plan that survives week six' is a useful companion.
Which software do I need?
The workbooks open in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice. Forms fill in Acrobat Reader or most PDF apps, including GoodNotes on a tablet. Word templates open in Word or Google Docs. The calendar imports into Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple Calendar, and the task board into Trello, Asana, Notion, Planner or Jira.
Can I use it with my team?
Yes. The facilitator guide runs a 90-minute or half-day team session, the 52 weekly messages are written for your team, and the leadership code is a page to adopt together. The personal licence covers use with your own team; for company-wide use contact solutions@bodhih.com.
What is the refund policy?
Digital kits are non-refundable once downloaded. We will refund or replace for corrupted files we cannot fix within 3 working days, duplicate charges or failed delivery.
How much does The Confucian Leader cost?
₹1,299 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $34 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.
How do I get the files after paying?
Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.
What software do I need?
Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.
Can I get a refund?
Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.
Can my company buy this for a team?
Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
