Quick answer

What is a good team business strategy simulation for a leadership programme or MBA class?

Meridian Mobility is a Bodhih Arena team tournament in which groups run rival electric-mobility companies for 6 to 10 simulated years. Each person holds a role such as CEO, CFO or CMO. Teams are judged on profit, value, customers, people, planet and trust, with a facilitator console, AI stakeholders and a full debrief.

What is Meridian Mobility?

Meridian Mobility is the flagship team tournament of Bodhih Arena. Two to eight companies, run by teams or by computer strategies, compete to build scooters, cargo three-wheelers and cars in an invented market called Sundara, and later in a richer export market, Northmark. Each round is one year of pricing, production, technology, people, sustainability and finance decisions. A balanced scorecard, individual assessment and a debrief with a What if? replay turn the game into evidence of leadership.

Leadership programmes talk about strategy. Few let people practise it together.

Case discussions end before consequences begin

A strong argument in the room is not the same as a decision that has to survive next year’s price war, a supply shock and a board that remembers what you promised.

Functional leaders rarely see the whole company

Finance optimises cash, marketing chases share and operations protects the plant. Without a shared business to run, the trade-offs between them stay theoretical.

Programme evidence is thin

Attendance and happy sheets do not tell a sponsor who can think strategically, write a clear rationale or handle a board under pressure.

The scenario

Here is the situation you walk into

It is the start of the electric decade. Your team runs one of several young manufacturers in Sundara, a large, fast-growing and price-sensitive market. You build for five segments: City Hop commuters, Cargo Run delivery businesses, Family Drive households, Fleet Pro ride-hailing operators and, later, Prestige buyers. Batteries get cheaper, but not smoothly.

Each round is a year. Your CMO sets prices and advertising, your COO plans capacity and automation, your CTO funds upgrades, your CHRO sets pay and training, your CSO buys green power and your CFO manages debt, shares and battery contracts. Your CEO decides whether to enter Northmark when it opens in round 3, writes the sales forecast and signs off a rationale.

Then the world talks back. A charging law lifts demand, a lithium squeeze lifts battery prices, a carbon levy arrives, an export market slows. The board chair, an activist investor, a journalist, the regulator, the workers’ council and a fleet buyer write to you about your own results. Your facilitator may swap CEOs between teams, or announce a merger.

How it plays

How a run works

  1. STEP 1

    Set up the cohort

A facilitator creates the cohort, names the teams, gives people roles and chooses 6 to 10 rounds. Computer-run rivals with set strategies can fill the market if you have only a few teams.

  2. STEP 2

Decide each round as a team

Members work on the decisions their role owns, with team chat and presence showing who is editing what. The CEO can change anything; small teams cover several roles between them.

  3. STEP 3

    Calculate, review, publish

The engine calculates the year. The facilitator previews results before teams see them, then publishes reports, a leaderboard and an edition of The Arena Times.

  4. STEP 4

    Answer the stakeholders

AI stakeholders write to teams about their own numbers, at most two per team per round. Replies are scored for clarity, evidence and stakeholder awareness. A Socratic coach asks questions but never gives inputs.

  5. STEP 5

    Face the twists

Scripted events arrive on schedule, and the facilitator can switch them off or inject their own. Optional twists: CEO Swap rotates CEOs between teams, and The Merger combines two firms.

  6. STEP 6

    Board Inbox and Board Room

At the end, each person handles four written board items in 30 minutes, built from their own company’s results, and an AI board of three asks five follow-up questions.

  7. STEP 7

    Debrief and credentials

The debrief builder tells the story of the tournament, with standings, turning points and questions for the room. A What if? replay shows the effect of changing one decision. Finishers receive a credential.

Who it’s for

Who Meridian Mobility is for

  • L&D heads and leadership programme managers. A centrepiece for high-potential, first-line-to-senior and general management programmes, with assessment evidence for each participant.
  • Business school and university faculty. A capstone or strategy module exercise that launches from your LMS through LTI 1.3 and sends scores to the gradebook.
  • CHROs and talent teams. Observe teamwork, judgement and written communication in a shared business, and use the Spine evidence in development conversations.
  • Training companies and facilitators. Run your own cohorts with the facilitator console, events you can switch or inject, and a debrief you can print to PDF.
Being honest

Who should skip it

It is not a solo exercise or a ten-minute activity; if you want one person to practise one decision quickly, choose a Bodhih Arena micro-sim instead.

What you take away

What your people can do after Meridian Mobility

After six to ten years of running a company together, participants leave with a shared language for strategy and individual evidence of how they lead.

Think like a general manager

Connect price, capacity, technology, people, carbon and cash, and see how a choice in one function lands in the others a year later.

Forecast and plan with discipline

Forecasts are scored for accuracy, and stock-outs hand customers to rivals, so planning stops being a guess.

Lead through shocks

Respond to supply squeezes, regulation and demand swings, and recover position in the rounds that follow.

Balance the scorecard

Win on profit, value, customers, people, planet and trust together, rather than maximising one and neglecting the rest.

Explain decisions to a board

Write rationales, answer stakeholders and defend your record in the Board Inbox and Board Room.

Work as a leadership team

Share decisions across roles, handle a new CEO arriving mid-game, and rate each other’s contribution in the final round.

Learning goals

  • Set strategy for a whole company and keep it coherent across functions
  • Plan capacity and forecast demand under competition and uncertainty
  • Manage cash, debt and investment so the firm never runs out of money
  • Balance profit with customers, people, planet and trust
  • Communicate decisions and results to a board and to stakeholders

Skills practised: Strategic thinking, Decision making under uncertainty, Financial acumen, Competitive strategy and pricing, Operations and capacity planning, Sustainability strategy, Board communication, Cross-functional collaboration.

What the debrief shows

  • The story of the tournament: standings, score by round, scorecard components, strategy fingerprints and the turning points.
  • Lessons and questions for the room, printable to PDF for the facilitator.
  • A What if? replay: change one decision in one round and see its effect alone, with every random draw held the same.
  • Individual results: team performance, decision quality, rationale and replies, Board Inbox and Board Room, and peer ratings, mapped to the Competency Spine.
Key concept

Balanced scorecard

A way of judging a company on several measures at once, such as profit, value, customers, people, planet and trust, so that winning one at the expense of the rest does not count as success. In Meridian Mobility the weights are visible to every team from round one.

Meridian Mobility: FAQs

Ask us anything

How is Meridian Mobility priced for companies?

Company cohorts are priced per participant at $99 per seat, with volume tiers by seat count. You can buy up to 25 seats online. For more people, request a quote: we invoice, you pay offline and your seats are activated.

Can a university buy it per student, or for the whole institution?

Yes, by quote. Universities can choose per-student seats for a term or an annual institution licence for unlimited cohorts. Request a quote with your student numbers and timetable.

Can Bodhih facilitate it for us?

Yes. Facilitated programmes, such as a one-day leadership event or a two-day programme with a league that runs on afterwards, are available by quote. You can also run cohorts yourself with the facilitator console.

I am an individual. Can I join?

Meridian Mobility is played in cohorts set up by companies and institutions, so it is not sold to individuals. You can register interest for an open cohort, and we will contact you if one is arranged.

How long does a tournament take, and how big are the teams?

A cohort runs 6 to 10 rounds. Facilitators can run rounds back to back in a day or set deadlines over several weeks. Each cohort has two to eight companies; one person can hold several roles, so small teams work.

Can we try it before we buy?

Yes. A sandbox cohort for up to three people uses no seats, with AI features on templates, so you can evaluate or rehearse a session. For a quick feel of Bodhih Arena, play the free 3-round Price War.

What do participants receive?

Every finisher receives an Open Badges 3.0 credential, “Arena Strategist: Meridian Mobility”, with rank, score and any awards such as Champion, Best turnaround, Best forecaster, Planet leader, People first or Steady hands. It has a public verification page and an Add to LinkedIn button.

How does the AI work, and can it make up figures?

Every number in AI-written text comes from the engine; the AI is told never to invent figures. Each cohort has an AI budget, and when it is used up the stakeholders and the newspaper switch to templates filled with engine data, so play never stops.

Does it integrate with our LMS?

Yes. Bodhih Arena is an LTI 1.3 Advantage tool for Canvas, Moodle, Blackboard and D2L Brightspace, with the activity picker, class lists and score passback at the end of the tournament. It can also be a stage in a Bodhih learning pathway.

How is this different from a case study or a role-play?

A case study is about someone else’s company. A role-play depends on the facilitator to judge outcomes. Here teams run their own company for years, an engine calculates every result, and the debrief can replay any decision to show what would have changed.

Is our data private?

Each company’s cohorts, teams and results stay within its own Bodhih account; credentials are public only through their verification links. See bodhih.org/privacy for the full notice.

What devices are needed, and what about refunds?

Participants need a web browser on a laptop or desktop; a larger screen helps with the reports. Nothing is installed. Refund terms are at bodhih.org/refunds.
