How do you pre-sell an online course?
Validate the problem with your audience, shape the smallest course that solves it, set a price, then open a short pre-sale with three rules fixed in advance: a go threshold, a real deadline and a full refund if the threshold is not met. Build the course week by week if it runs. The Online Course Pre-Sale and Launch Kit from Bodhih Training gives a file for each step.
Want the full free guide first? Read How to Pre-Sell an Online Course Before You Build It.
You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.
Months of building, then silence
You recorded every lesson before anyone paid. Launch day came and went with a handful of sales and no idea which part to change.
No idea what to charge
Prices you see online run from tiny to huge, and none of them are your course, your hours or your audience. So you guess, and then doubt the guess.
Launch tactics that feel wrong
Countdown timers that reset, invented testimonials, income screenshots. You want to sell well without doing anything you would be embarrassed to explain.
Numbers you cannot read
Opens, clicks, visitors, refunds. After the launch you have numbers everywhere and no way to tell whether it went well or what to try next.
Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.
Picture the week before you open your cart. As you open the Course Launch Workbook, the Demand Score already shows which problem your readers will pay to fix, because you logged their own words from a survey and seven calls. The offer fits on one page. The price is tested. The go threshold, the deadline and the refund promise are written down and on the sales page.
Now picture launch week. Each morning you check the wall plan, send the email you scheduled days ago and type yesterday's sales into the Pre-Sale Tracker. The day it passes your threshold, the status turns to GO, and you know the course will run without having built a single extra module.
Whether you start with the validation worksheet tonight or the forecast calculator tomorrow, every step has a file, an example filled in by a composite creator, and words you can adapt. When the cart closes, the Launch Debrief shows you what to repeat and what to change.
And when you sit down to plan the next launch, you are not guessing any more. You are improving on numbers that are your own.

- Read your launch numbers and decide what to change next time
- Set up an evergreen funnel with honest personal deadlines
Know your starting point. Prove your progress.
People who measure before and after improve faster and can show it. AssessAll, our sister assessment platform, has AI-graded assessments that pair with this kit. Take one now, work through the kit, then re-take it.
A taste of Chapter 1
Two ideas help here. Kevin Kelly's essay "1,000 True Fans", first published in March 2008, argued that a creator does not need a mass audience to make a living: about a thousand people who will buy what you make, each spending around 100 dollars a year with you directly, can be enough for a modest income. Seth Godin's idea of the smallest viable audience makes a similar point from the other direction: aim at the smallest group you can serve really well, not the largest group you can reach. Both point the same way for a course. You do not need everyone. You need a specific group with a specific problem who trust you to help. There is plenty of noise about how big the creator economy is.
The honest comparison
| Free templates and typical advice | This kit | |
|---|---|---|
| Validation | Ask 'would you buy this?' and trust the yeses | An evidence ladder, a call guide and a demand score by problem theme |
| Pre-sale rules | Open the cart and hope | Go threshold, real deadline and refund promise set first, tracked daily |
| Pricing | Copy a bigger creator's price | Tier and scenario tests, payment plan totals, tax questions to ask |
| Urgency and proof | Reset timers and borrowed testimonials | Real deadlines, capacity limits and permission forms |
| Numbers | A revenue screenshot | A debrief with 14 numbers, each with its formula |
| Country fit | One country's assumptions | Any currency, with a dated sheet covering the UK, EU, US, India, Australia and Canada |

The Online Course Pre-Sale and Launch Kit: FAQs
Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my linkHow do I pre-sell an online course before I build it?
Validate the problem first, then open a short pre-sale with a go threshold, a real deadline and a promise to refund everyone if the threshold is not met. If it runs, build each week's lessons in the week before you teach them. Chapter 4 and the Pre-Sale Go or No-Go Scorecard walk you through it.
How big does my email list need to be?
There is no magic number. A small, engaged list can fill a small cohort, and a big, cold list may not. The forecast calculator shows how your own list size and assumptions translate into low, mid and high scenarios, and the go threshold protects you either way.
How do I price my first online course?
Start from what it costs you to deliver, what the change is worth to your students and what your audience can reach. Then test tiers and payment plans on the Pricing Scenarios sheet. Chapter 3 covers anchoring, founding prices and the tax questions to ask your accountant.
Does it promise sales or income?
No. Nobody can honestly promise that. The kit gives you a method, the files to run it and a way to read your results. It is practical guidance, not legal, tax or financial advice: check your accountant, your lawyer and your platform's current terms.
Which course platform does it work with?
Any. The kit names course platforms, all-in-one creator platforms and email tools only as examples and shows what to check on each: fees, who handles tax, payouts and what happens if you leave. Bodhih is not affiliated with any of them.
Can I use this with my team or assistant?
Yes, within your own business under the personal licence: share the files with the assistant, editor or partner who helps you run your launches. Company and multi-site licences are available from solutions@bodhih.com.
Does it work in my country?
The method works anywhere and the workbooks take any currency. Tax, consumer and advertising rules differ by country, so the dated sheet covers the UK, the EU, the US, India, Australia and Canada with official sources, and tells you what to check elsewhere. Laws need checking locally.
Can I measure my starting point?
Yes. AssessAll, a Bodhih assessment platform, has assessments that fit this work, sold separately: Written Sales Communication, Pricing & Discount Discipline and Decision-Making Under Uncertainty. The links are on the Start-here map.
How do I keep going if my launch stalls?
Pick a clear new start date and run the next step from it. Jobulary's guide to the fresh-start effect explains how to turn a stalled goal into a plan with a reset date, and the link is on the Start-here map.
What if nobody buys in my pre-sale?
Then you keep your promise: refund everyone in full, tell them what you learned and look at the evidence. The kit includes the no-go email and refund messages, and the debrief helps you see whether the problem, the offer, the price or the list needs work.
How much does The Online Course Pre-Sale and Launch Kit cost?
₹999 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $29 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.
How do I get the files after paying?
Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.
What software do I need?
Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.
Can I get a refund?
Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.
Can my company buy this for a team?
Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
