Quick answer

How do I write and publish a book?

Define one reader and a one-sentence promise or premise, outline with word targets, draft on a logged schedule, revise in layers (structural, line, copy, proof), choose traditional, hybrid or self-publishing on your own numbers, produce a proper cover and files, then launch honestly. The Book Writing-to-Publishing Kit from Bodhih Training gives you the method and every tool.

Sound familiar?

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.

The draft that never ends

You have rewritten the opening many times and have no idea when the book will be finished. Without word targets and a log, there is no date, only guilt.

Too many conflicting answers

Blogs disagree on agents, platforms, ISBNs and royalties. You need one method and a place to put the current figures from the platforms themselves.

Expensive offers that sound flattering

A paid publishing package arrives with big promises. Without your own numbers and the right questions, it is hard to tell a fair hybrid from a vanity press.

Launch panic

Launch week arrives with no ARC readers, no plan and a temptation to ask friends for five-star reviews. There is a calmer, honest way.

Now imagine this

Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.

Imagine opening the workbook on a Monday morning, typing last week's sessions into the Writing Log, and seeing a projected finish date that you actually believe. When the date slips by a few days, you add one short session and carry on.

Picture the moment your draft is done: you rest it for a week, then revise in layers, one at a time, while three beta readers you chose from your reader canvas read it. As you brief your editor with the brief form, the scope, fee and dates are agreed in writing before anyone starts.

When the paid publishing offer arrives, you open Route Compare, put in the fee, your own budget and a realistic number of copies, and see the trade-off clearly. Whether you send your first batch of queries this month or upload your files next season, you know why you chose that route.

And on launch day, your ARC readers already have the book, your launch team knows exactly what you are asking, and the Money dashboard is waiting for the first royalties. Start with the first-hour list tonight and write tomorrow's words.

Best for
Non-fiction and fiction authors, first book or next book, on any route

Describe one reader by situation, write the promise or premise in one sentence, find recent comps and test a one-line pitch aloud.

  2. The Outline: Chapter Architecture and Story Structure

Build a non-fiction chapter staircase or check a fiction draft against a structure model, then put targets in the workbook.

  3. The Writing System: Targets, Sprints and a Finished Draft

Turn words per session and sessions per week into a finish date you can trust, and keep going through the middle.

  4. Research, Permissions and Using AI Honestly

  5. Revision in Layers: Readers, Sensitivity Reads and Editors

Revise from big to small with beta readers, sensitivity and expert readers and editors briefed in writing.

  6. Choosing Your Route: Traditional, Hybrid or Self-Publishing

Compare traditional, hybrid and self-publishing on your own numbers and spot vanity-press warning signs.

  7. The Traditional Route: Queries, Proposals, Agents and Contracts

  8. The Self-Publishing Route: Platforms, ISBNs, Metadata and Pricing

Choose platforms, ISBNs, metadata and prices from royalty per copy and break-even copies, with rates from current platform pages.

  9. Production: Cover, Interior, Ebook, Audio and Legal Deposit

Brief a cover for thumbnails and genre, build accessible files, decide on audio honestly and diarise legal deposit.

  10. Launch, the Long Tail and the Author Business

Run a launch you can manage, ask for honest reviews, plan the long tail and keep royalties, income and tax set-aside in order.

A taste of Chapter 1

Maria's first attempt at describing her book went like this: "It's for anyone who has too many meetings." Her sister, a nurse, said that was everyone, and that she would never buy it. Then Maria tried again: "It's for a team lead in their first two years who runs eight recurring meetings a week and feels the calendar owns them." Her sister said, "Oh, that's my unit manager. She'd read that on the bus." That is the whole lesson of this chapter. A book is chosen by one person at a time, in a particular moment. The more clearly you can see that person and that moment, the easier every later decision becomes: what goes in, what comes out, which title, which cover, which agent, which category.

Questions buyers ask

The Book Writing-to-Publishing Kit: FAQs

Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my link

Is this for fiction or non-fiction?

Both. The method is the same; where they differ, the kit shows both: promise and chapter architecture for non-fiction, premise and structure for fiction, proposals for non-fiction, synopses for fiction. The worked example is a non-fiction book; a novelist's story runs through the chapters on structure and querying.

Does the kit tell me whether to self-publish or find an agent?

It helps you decide on facts: a decision card with if-this-then-that rules, five questions to ask of any offer, and Route Compare in the calculator, which puts an advance, a hybrid fee and self-publishing costs side by side on your own numbers. The decision stays yours.

How long does it take to write and publish a book?

It depends on length, time available and route. The kit's calendar spreads one book over 36 weeks from idea to launch, about sixteen of them drafting. The workbook turns your own targets into a projected finish date, which is more useful than any general answer.

Are the royalty rates and fees in the calculator current?

They are sample placeholders, because platforms change them. The dated sheet lists what we found on official pages in October 2026 and where to check. Type the current figures from each platform's pricing page into the Inputs sheet before you rely on any result.

Can I use AI to help write my book?

The kit shows where AI helps (brainstorming, structure checks, questions about your sentences, claim and permission sweeps, admin) and where it must not decide. It sets a simple rule: you write the book, check everything, and disclose AI-generated content wherever the platform, publisher or law requires it.

Can I use this with my team, co-author, editor or launch team?

Yes, within your own writing business under the personal licence: share the launch team charter with helpers, send briefs to editors and designers, and work through the workbook with a co-author. Company, publisher and multi-author licences are available via solutions@bodhih.com.

Does it work in my country?

The method works anywhere. The dated sheet covers ISBN agencies, legal deposit, review and endorsement rules and other specifics for the US, UK, India, Canada and Australia, with pointers for other countries. Laws, tax and platform terms need local checking with an adviser and the platform itself.

Is this legal, tax or financial advice?

No. It is educational. Contract templates and notes are discussion material for a lawyer or authors' society, tax notes point you to an accountant, and nothing in the kit promises publication, sales, reviews or income.

How do I measure my starting point?

If you want an outside view of the skills behind the job, AssessAll offers separate assessments such as Structured Business Writing Work Sample for Consultants, Managers and Technical Leads, Commercial Terms and Contract Reading (useful before you read a publishing contract) and Time, Priorities & Focus. They are not included in the kit.

How do I turn my writing goal into a plan I keep?

Use the kit's calendar and workbook for the book itself, and if you want a goal-setting method to go with it, Jobulary's guide to the WOOP method shows how to set goals you actually reach and turn them into a development plan.

How much does The Book Writing-to-Publishing Kit cost?

₹999 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $29 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.

How do I get the files after paying?

Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.

What software do I need?

Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.

Can I get a refund?

Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.

Can my company buy this for a team?

Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
