Quick answer

How does a small design studio run production and client hand-off?

Build out the identity system, artwork to one naming and version standard, check every outgoing file against the printer's spec, get written approval of an exact version, compare print quotes after extras, and hand off numbered folders with licence notes. The Design Studio Production and Hand-off Kit from Bodhih Training gives you every form, log and template for it.

Sound familiar?

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.

Reprints you should never have paid for

Rich black on small text, a missing bleed, an old dieline. Each one is a few seconds to catch and a few thousand to fix after the run. Without a written check, they keep coming back.

Approvals nobody can find

A thumbs-up in a group chat is not an approval of version 3. When a client disputes a reprint, you need the version, the person, the date and the evidence in one place.

Quotes that grow after you accept them

Proofs, delivery, overs and re-proofs appear on the invoice. Comparing headline prices hides them; comparing adjusted totals does not.

Hand-offs that come back a year later

The client only has JPGs and nobody knows who holds the font licence. A structured hand-off with a receipt prevents the call.

Now imagine this

Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.

Picture next Monday at 9.05. Instead of twenty minutes of 'I think it's with the printer', you open the job register and read the week off one screen: what is in prepress, what is waiting for approval, what is overdue.

As you open the prepress checklist before the next file leaves, notice how quickly it becomes habit. Size and bleed, images, colour, black and overprint, dielines, copy, export. Two minutes, and the shivering prices never reach the press.

When the next approval arrives, it names a version and sits in the Artwork Log with its evidence. When the next quote arrives, the calculator adds the proof and delivery and tells you whether it meets the date.

And imagine the hand-off: eight numbered folders, a letter that explains which file to use where and which licences the client holds, a 30-minute walk-through and a signed receipt. Whether you start with the workbook tonight or the prepress checklist tomorrow, the engine starts running the day you open it.

A taste of Chapter 1

Most small studios run production out of the designers' heads. That works at three jobs a month. At twelve it fails in predictable ways: a file goes to print without a check, an approval lives in someone's WhatsApp, a printer's quote is accepted without the delivery cost, a font goes to a client who has no licence for it. None of these are design failures. They are system failures, and they cost money, time and trust. A production engine has three parts. Roles, so each check has an owner. Stages, so everyone uses the same words for where a job is. One register, so the answer to "what's happening this week" takes thirty seconds, not twenty minutes. None of it needs software you do not already own.

Questions buyers ask

The Design Studio Production and Hand-off Kit: FAQs

Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my link

What is in the kit, exactly?

An e-book with 10 chapters and 22 figures, a 15-sheet production workbook, a print quote calculator, six fillable forms, eight Word documents (including a 47-message library and a 25-prompt AI pack), four cheat sheets, a start-here map, a calendar and a CSV task board.

Can I use this with my staff or team?

Yes, within your own studio under the personal licence: share the workbook, forms and templates with the people who work on your jobs. Company and multi-site licences are available from solutions@bodhih.com.

Does it work in my country?

The method is universal and the tools work in any currency and in metric or imperial units. Copyright, licensing, labelling, accessibility and AI rules differ by country; the dated notes sheet covers the EU, UK, India, the US and others in general terms with official sources, and you should check your lawyer and local rules.

How do I prepare a print-ready PDF?

Set the trim size, add bleed on every edge that prints off, keep text inside the safe area, check image resolution at final size, set colour as the printer asks, use 100% black for small text, check overprint, then export with the printer's preset. The prepress checklist walks you through it file by file.

What is the difference between RGB, CMYK and spot colour?

RGB mixes light for screens. CMYK mixes four process inks for print. A spot colour is a single pre-mixed ink used when one colour must match exactly every time. The decision card tells you which to use for each output.

Is this legal advice on copyright, font licences or packaging labels?

No. The kit is educational. It shows you how to organise production and records; ownership, licences, labelling and disclosure rules come from your contract, the licence text, the client's compliance team and local law. Check your lawyer.

How can I measure my starting point?

AssessAll, from Bodhih Training, has assessments that fit production work: the Document and Slide Production Assessment for Office and Client-Facing Work, Freelance and Client Work Judgment, and Attention to Detail and Error Checking. They give you or a new artworker a baseline before you start.

How do I turn this into a development plan?

Pick two production habits (for example, the first prepress check and the Monday register update) and write them as if-then plans. Jobulary's guide to if-then plans at work shows how: jobulary.com/blog/implementation-intentions-if-then-plans-at-work.

Do I need special software?

No. The workbooks run in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice with no macros. The forms open in any PDF reader, the templates in Word or Google Docs, the calendar in Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar.

How is this different from The Creative Brief-to-Delivery Kit?

That kit runs a creative project from brief through concepts and feedback rounds. This kit starts when the concept is approved and goes deep on the production craft: build-out, prepress, approvals, print, packaging, hand-off and the request desk.

How much does The Design Studio Production and Hand-off Kit cost?

₹999 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $29 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.

How do I get the files after paying?

Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.

What software do I need?

Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.

Can I get a refund?

Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.

Can my company buy this for a team?

Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
