Quick answer

How do you open a restaurant or cloud kitchen step by step?

Choose the model, write a one-page concept, then build the budget, forecast, break-even and cash runway. Check a site's services before rent, count licences back from opening day, design the kitchen from the menu, read platform contracts, train early, soft launch and review numbers weekly. Bodhih Training's Restaurant and Cloud Kitchen Opening Kit has a file for each step.

Sound familiar?

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.

Forty small things, all late at once

Openings rarely fail from one big mistake. They slip when the sign consent, the extraction fan, the allergen matrix and the training are each a little late and land in the same fortnight. The workbook's master plan counts every task back from your opening date.

A budget that forgot half the costs

Deposits, extraction, pre-opening wages, opening stock and working capital are easy to leave out. The capital budget lists them by category with a contingency line, and the cash runway shows the month your cash is lowest.

Delivery orders that cost you money

Commission, funded discounts, fees and packaging can leave little from a busy delivery night. The Aggregator Model shows what each order really leaves before you set app prices.

A team meeting the menu on opening night

Without paid training and practice services, the first guests become the rehearsal. The ten-day training plan, station sign-offs and soft-launch forms put the rehearsal where it belongs.

Now imagine this

Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.

Imagine the Monday after you buy the kit. You open the workbook, type your business name, model and opening date on Settings, and as you fill in the capital budget the dashboard starts telling you something you did not know: your break-even covers per day, your prime cost and the month your cash is tightest.

When you walk the next site, you carry the evaluation form and check extraction, gas, drainage and waste before the agent finishes describing the light. When the platform contract arrives, you type its commission into the Aggregator Model and read what one order leaves you before you set a single app price.

Picture week three before opening. The countdown is on the kitchen wall, half the boxes are ticked, the licences sheet shows only two items waiting on the authority, and the team is on day four of a paid training fortnight. Whether you start with the workbook tonight or the concept worksheet tomorrow morning, every step after that has a file waiting for it.

And after opening, every Monday has a shape: actuals into the First 90 Days sheet, fixes onto the log with a name and a date, one change to the menu or the rota. At day ninety you hand over a settled business to daily operations.

A taste of Chapter 3

Profit is an opinion until it becomes cash. Open Cash Runway. Type your funding in the pre-opening row and a sales ramp for months one to twelve. The sheet subtracts capital spend, variable costs, labour and fixed costs, and shows closing cash each month and how many months of costs that cash would cover. Sarah funded the cafe with 70,000 pounds of her own money and a 75,000-pound bank loan. With the ramp at 65% of the settled month in month one rising to 100% in month six, her lowest closing cash is about 17,200 pounds in month three: less than one month of fixed costs and wages, against her own target of three months. That is not a reason to give up. It is a reason to ask early whether the loan should be larger, the fit-out smaller or the ramp quicker, while there is still time to change.

Questions buyers ask

The Restaurant and Cloud Kitchen Opening Kit: FAQs

Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my link

Does it cover both dine-in restaurants and cloud kitchens?

Yes. The workbook has a model switch (Dine-in, Cloud kitchen or Hybrid) that changes how sites are scored, the Aggregator Model works out what each delivery order leaves, and a separate calculator handles several delivery brands from one kitchen. The worked example pack follows a cafe and a three-brand cloud kitchen side by side.

How much does it cost to open a restaurant or cafe?

It depends on country, city, size, site condition and model, so no honest single figure exists. The kit's Capital Budget lists every category you will pay before opening, adds a contingency, and the Cash Runway shows how much working capital you need on top. Get real quotes and type them in.

How do I work out break-even for a restaurant?

Add your fixed costs and wages for a month, divide by one minus your variable cost percentage (food, packaging, platform fees and card fees as a share of sales) to get break-even sales, then divide by average spend and trading days to get covers or orders per day. The Prime Cost sheet does this for you from your own numbers.

Can I use this with my staff or team?

Yes, within your own business under the personal licence: share the training plan, briefings, print pack and task board with your team. Company and multi-site licences for groups and franchisors are available from solutions@bodhih.com.

Does it work in my country?

The method is universal and every workbook takes any currency, tax rate and unit. The dated rules sheet names the authorities and current rules for India, the UK, the US, Australia, Singapore and Dubai at October 2026; elsewhere it gives you the questions to ask. Licensing, food safety and employment law always need checking locally.

Will this make my restaurant compliant or profitable?

No kit can promise either. This one helps you organise the opening, see your numbers clearly and ask the right questions. Food safety, licences, leases and tax remain matters for your local authority, a qualified food safety professional, your lawyer and your accountant.

Which delivery platforms does it cover?

Any of them: Swiggy, Zomato, Uber Eats, Deliveroo, DoorDash, Talabat, Grab and others. Commission plans and terms change and differ by country, so the kit gives you a contract checklist and a model where you type the rates from your own contract. Always check the platform's current terms.

How do I measure my starting point as an owner?

Take AssessAll's Small Business Operating Decision Assessment for Shop, Service and Studio Owners, Four Quarters: Financial Judgement for Managers Who Are Not in Finance, or the Food Safety & Hygiene Judgment Certification for your kitchen leads. They are separate products, linked on the Start-here map.

How do I turn this into a development plan for me or my head chef?

Use what you learn in the opening, and from AssessAll if you take it, to build a development plan with Jobulary; the Start-here map links to how a Jobulary plan works. The kit's training plan covers the team's opening fortnight.

I already have a menu and a site. Is it still useful?

Yes. Start from Chapter 3 and the workbook's numbers, then use the licences, equipment, training, platform and launch files. The 16-week countdown and task board can start from wherever you are.

How much does The Restaurant and Cloud Kitchen Opening Kit cost?

₹1,299 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $34 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.

How do I get the files after paying?

Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.

What software do I need?

Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.

Can I get a refund?

Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.

Can my company buy this for a team?

Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
