Quick answer

How do you plan a fundraising campaign or event for a small nonprofit?

Set a target by income stream, write a true case for support, brief each campaign on one page with a goal built from your own numbers, test every event for break-even before booking, thank every gift within 48 hours and track retention. The Fundraising Campaign and Event Kit from Bodhih Training gives you the method and the tools.

Sound familiar?

You already feel the problem. Here is what it is costing you.

A target with nothing behind it

The board agrees a number, but nobody knows which streams it depends on, what it will cost or who will do the work. By September everyone is anxious and nobody can say why.

Events that lose money quietly

The venue is booked before anyone works out break-even. The room is half full, the raffle saves the night, and the real cost in staff time never appears anywhere.

Thank-yous that arrive in a fortnight

Gifts sit in three systems and a shoebox. Thank-you letters wait for the one person who can print them, and donors quietly stop giving.

Stories and data that worry you

You are not sure which photos you may use, who agreed to email, or whether a raffle at your event is even allowed where you are.

Now imagine this

Picture the next few weeks with the kit open beside you.

Imagine the next board meeting. As you open the Fundraising Workbook, the plan sits on one screen: each income stream with its target, its cost, its owner and a Check column that already tells you which stream is behind. When a trustee asks where the money will come from, you simply scroll.

Picture the next event idea arriving. Before anyone books a venue, you type the costs into the break-even calculator and read the answer: how many people must come, what happens at 70% of expected, and whether a sponsor changes the picture. Whether the answer is go, change or park, the decision is made on numbers, not on hope.

Now think of December. The appeal was briefed on one page in October, the letters land early, the emails go out in sequence, and every gift is thanked within 48 hours from the message library. In January the Retention View shows who came back and who needs a warm reactivation letter.

Whether you start with the workbook tonight or the case for support tomorrow, you will be working from one method and one set of tools that fit together.

A taste of Chapter 9

Thank every gift within 48 hours of it arriving. Make the thank-you personal: their name, the amount, what it is doing, and who you are. Keep the receipt separate, or put it below the thank-you, so that the first thing they read is gratitude rather than paperwork. For gifts above the call threshold on Settings, a person phones (message 11) as well as sending a card or email. First gifts deserve particular care: a first-time donor who feels noticed is far more likely to give again. The Gifts sheet calculates days to thank for every gift and shows "Thank now: overdue" when you pass your target. The Dashboard shows the average days to thank and the share thanked on time. In the sample, 84% of donations were thanked within two days; the late ones were over the Christmas break, which a thanking rota now covers.

Questions buyers ask

The Fundraising Campaign and Event Kit: FAQs

Read the free guideAlready bought? Resend my link

Can I use this with my staff, volunteers and trustees?

Yes. The personal licence covers use within your own organisation, including sharing the forms, templates and print pack with your staff, volunteers and board. For several organisations or a network of branches, ask about a company or multi-site licence at solutions@bodhih.com.

Does it work in my country?

The method works anywhere: plans, cases, campaigns, break-even, thanking and retention are universal. The dated country sheet covers donor tax relief, receipts, raffle rules and fundraising codes for the UK, US, Canada, India, Australia, Singapore, Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa in general terms. Laws change, so always check your regulator, local authority and adviser.

Is this legal or tax advice?

No. It is educational and practical. Fundraising regulation, tax relief, raffle law, data protection and safeguarding rules differ by country and change, so the kit keeps specifics in one dated sheet and tells you who to check with. Templates are starting points for your board and adviser to formalise.

How do I work out break-even for a fundraising event?

Subtract any agreed cash sponsorship from your fixed costs, then divide by the ticket price minus the cost per head, and round up. The calculator does this for six ticket prices at once and shows what happens if fewer people come. Leave raffle, auction and donations out of break-even.

How quickly should I thank a donor?

Within 48 hours, personally, with the receipt separate or below the thanks. Larger gifts get a phone call as well. The Gifts sheet flags any gift that passes your target, and the message library has the words.

Will this kit help us raise more money?

It gives you a method and tools that many organisations use to plan, ask and thank well, but it cannot promise any amount. Results depend on your cause, your supporters, your timing and your work.

Does it cover grants and the volunteer programme?

No. Institutional grants belong to The Grant Lifecycle Kit, and recruiting and keeping volunteers all year belongs to The Volunteer Programme Kit. This kit covers individuals, local businesses, community fundraising, events and event-day volunteers.

How should we use AI for appeals and thank-yous?

For drafts, plain-language checks and ideas, never for final decisions. The prompt pack has 30 prompts and a strict rule: a person checks every fact and story, and identifiable donor data never goes into an unapproved tool.

How can I measure my starting point?

AssessAll offers related assessments, sold separately: Three Rooms: Donor, Team and Board (donor stewardship judgment), the Business Storytelling Work Sample and Prospecting Discipline. They can show where you or your team start before you use the kit.

How do I turn what I learn into a development plan?

Jobulary explains how to set goals you actually reach with the WOOP method, which pairs a wish and an outcome with the obstacle and a plan. It is a useful way to turn the kit's 30/60/90 day plan into personal goals for you or your team.

How much does The Fundraising Campaign and Event Kit cost?

₹999 including 18% GST for buyers in India, or $29 for buyers outside India. One-time payment, no subscription, with an automatic invoice.

How do I get the files after paying?

Instantly. Your download page opens the moment payment succeeds, and a permanent download link is emailed to you. Download each file separately or everything in one ZIP.

What software do I need?

Any of the usual tools: Excel or Google Sheets for spreadsheets, Word or Google Docs for templates, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Preview, Xodo or GoodNotes for the fillable PDFs, and Google, Outlook or Apple Calendar for the calendar plan.

Can I get a refund?

Because it is a digital download, kits are not refundable once downloaded. We always refund a duplicate charge or a failed delivery, and if a file is corrupted and we cannot fix it within 3 working days. Full terms: bodhih.org/refunds.

Can my company buy this for a team?

Yes. Team and company licences, and workshops on this topic run by Bodhih Training, are available. Write to solutions@bodhih.com or call +91 99000 11601.
